[Android] Android Widget

Having a home screen widget for Android would be really nice. All other media players have one on Android so it'd be great to see that in Spotify too. It'd make things so much easier to just be able control to Spotify from your home screen instead of swiping down for the notification bar or opening the app. It's really simple functionality so please can you add it.

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this idea in the Community.

We’re excited to let you know the Android Widget is back. To get listening, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and Spotify will show in the widget menu on your device. The widget is now resizable too and some stability issues have been fixed.

Hello there,

Thanks for reaching out to us. We're sad to hear that you'd like to cancel and that you're unhappy with the changes in the recent Spotify update. Please allow us to shed some light on this.

We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall. We’re sorry that this means you’re not able to use the app like you could before.

We can't say if or when the widget feature will be back. But as soon as we’ve got anything to announce, we’ll let everyone know via the Spotify Community.

Alternatively, the functionality of the Android widget can still be utilized in the Playback Tray in the notifications panel. You can access this wherever you are in the Android system - whether browsing Social Media, the Internet, or just going through your phone in general.

We welcome feedback and suggestions as they're the key to improve our services so please don't hesitate to let us know if you have other feedback in mind to share.

Now about the cancelation, you can cancel your subscription any time. This will revert your account to our Free ad-based service after any remaining Premium time runs out. So you’ll still be able to log in, play tunes, and access your playlists. Just follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account page.
  2. Click Subscription in the menu on the left.
  3. Click CHANGE OR CANCEL.
  4. Click CANCEL PREMIUM.
  5. Click YES, CANCEL.
Note: Your account page now shows the date you’ll return to the Free service. We hope you decide to upgrade again!

Alternatively, we can proceed with the cancelation for you. Just let us know and we'll make it happen.

All the best,

"

I guess its time to go back to Pandora.  Apparently Spotify did not want my families money anymore.

Why remove a feature

Bye Spotify - just signed up for Deezer. They have a widget and it works great!Screen Shot 2019-08-13 at 11.02.57.png

I figured I accidentally dragged it off my screen this morning when it was gone. Or that somehow I needed to reboot because my launcher broke. Come to find out it's Spotify!

Even if you recreate it just with a 1x1 "play button", I want to be able to quickly open my phone and hit play without having to worry about anything.

Seriously?!  You locked the original thread about the retirement of the widget... because why, your company can't handle the feedback from its customers... paying customers, who probably had nothing bad to say about the product before...?!  And now you want us to post on this idea thread.... for WHAT??  It already says that you have no plans to address the issuse...  because coding is hard??  Well guess what, any coder would know to have a roll back script, very easy to release that sh*t... so why again are we supposed to go to the lame idea thread instead??  Obviously this is an issue for your customers, your paying customers... that pay for you jobs... so if you want to keep getting paid... maybe put back the widget that made everyone's lives easier?

Spotify is now another company about to collapse, victim of its own marketing geniuses.

If these dumbasses were doctors they would cut your healthy leg, then tell you that they take amputating your limbs very seriously. They are pouring their energy into new ways of creating best experience for their patients.

And if you complain about not being able to walk normally anymore whereas you never asked them to remove your leg, they will suggest you to submit a request for a prosthesis. But unfortunately they will set this idea to 'Not Right Now', as this isn't something they have any immediate plans to reintroduce.

Fortunately, they appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Would love to know the reason behind removing the widget. Was there any UX research or testing done? Seems a really idiotic decision to remove a feature most users loved and used every day.

Bring back please.
