[Android] Rearrange Tracks inside a Playlist

On my iPod I can manually move my songs around that are in my playlist, but I can't do the same on my phone which is what I mostly use. It would be easier to have that option on all devices.

Hey!

The Spotify Community team here.

We're pleased to confirm that this feature should now be available to all Android users.
We'd recommend double-checking that you're running the latest version of Spotify.

Once again, thanks for showing your support here in the Community.

I really need to rearrange the songs on my playlist.  As a fitness instructor who does interval training,

it is very important to be able to manipulate fast and slow songs.  I know there are numerous instructors who use Spotify.

Messaged a couple of the recent posts to Spotify Cares on Twitter. Predictng the response will be, We hear ya! Sending to the team.

In another words, Spotify Doesn't Care!

Happy New Year! More comments in the Spotify Community regarding rearrange songs on a play list on the Android app. 4 years and counting. Maybe this is our year?

Here are a couple new posts...

"Happy new year! Any plans to implement this basic feature, new year's resolution perhaps? Set up a gofundme page for the dev, clearly from the last official response the Android team do whatever they want, what's in this pipeline?"

And this one...

"I really need to rearrange the songs on my playlist. As a fitness instructor who does interval training, it is very important to be able to manipulate fast and slow songs. I know there are numerous instructors who use Spotify."

As a former programmer I am beyond dumbfounded playlist ordering is not on Spotify.  This is a simple feature to implement, period.  I switched from iOS to Android on the new Pixel 2 XL and am blown away Spotify app is not on par with the iOS app in terms of a standard, simple and basic feature.

With a multi-billion dollar ipo coming for Spotify and teams of developers I am just blown away this feature was not added years ago let alone now in 2018.

I'm sure my post, as others, will fall on deaf ears.  Software companies do what they want.  This feature could have been added years ago or any time since.  Them not doing it is because of some legal or strategic reason we just don't know about.  However it is not for the programming time it would take to implement.  They already have the backend for it done as shown from the web and iOS app so fixing the Android front end is trivial.

Maybe they will share with us why?  Maybe some legal issue on Android or for licensing.  Sort of like when Pandora had to randomize songs you listened to for licensing.  Maybe not ordering songs got them a cheaper royalty rate or something.  Who knows and fairly certain they won't share why so I'll just guess it's one of these.

It seems ridiculous that this would be a feature on iPhone, but not Android. Having to delete every song in a playlist to get a song where I want it is insane.

I have to admit I have a hard time conceiving why features available on iOS are not on Android. And we're not even talking of some platform-related UI feature. This is one of the MOST BASIC feature any decent player music could offer. Users have been asking it for years. This very post is almost 4 years old.

We're paying the same subscription than iOS users, for a lesser product.

Is it part of some sick premium-features-agreement with Apple? Majors?

If not, why don't you just take a few hours from your developpers' time to do it?

Any update, comment, explanation? 2018 new year's resolutions maybe?

Because at some point, the "We've heard you but won't do anything" attitude will backfire...

Guys, there is a sort by option next to the filter bar in your playlists. It works on Androids. You can sort by Title, Recently Added, Artist, Album, Custom. Try it.

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure most people who have commented here are not
just trying to sort by title or release date. We are trying to make
specifically ordered playlists and be able to change those playlists while
not on a computer.

Mine are all set to "Custom" on that menu, as they should be, but if I want
to adjust that order I can't unless I go to a computer or re-create the
entire list in the order that I want it.

This is such a basic feature that Apple users have on Spotify with an iPhone, I can't believe this isn't "in the pipeline". It needs to be!

I've started a subreddit called r/Spotifydoesntcare as I really feel this forum is where people are out who the don't want to hear from.

@LynxLee

LynxLee, please don't underestimate +70 pages of users saying that custom reordering is not implemented, it just makes you look like a fool 🙂

There are several pages talking about it, you can't reorder songs on a playlist on Android... It makes no sense but it's true.

Your comment is what we think support people thinks, it looks like it is there but it's not. Make a simple playlist with a few songs and then try to change the order of the songs on Android.

As you said: Try it. And then tell us 🙂
