[Connect] Needed functionality: Using Spotify UI to stream to Sonos

Hello

I am tired of being "forced" to use Sonos UI when streaming Spotify music to my stereo.

It would be great if Spotify could could team up with Sonos and develop a feature enabling the Spotify UI to stream directly to the stereo via Sonos.

I heard a lot of people having the same wish.

That being said, Spotify really rocks 🙂

Regards

We’re thrilled to announce that Sonos now supports Spotify Connect. Spotify Premium users can now control their Sonos straight from the Spotify app. Check out this blog post for more details.

I am perfectly fine to use the Sonos App for my own music library, and Spotify to discover music. Spotify connect was just announced here, so it seems to go more global. Just put Sonos in there.

Just wanted to say that cast to Sonos is a major selling point of Google Play Music (GPM) for me.....I've switched to GPM for this reason.

If GPM didn't have this feature, or if Spotify had this feature, I'd still be using Spotify.

Completely agree with all comments.  Spotify and Sonos two excellent services, but what I'd give to be able use one application to discover new music instead of contstantly switching back and forth.

Also weighing up what to do with regards to cancelling spotify once my free trial of Google Play Music ends, which has this functionality already.  Would really rather not though due to the vast number of Spotify playlists and wide availability of EDM on Spotify.

Come on Spotify, please listen and make Spotify and Sonos a pleasurable one app experience and you have mine amongst others continual premium memberships!

Agree with all comments, in fact seriously considering cancelling my subscription if this functionality is not added soon.

I probably should have read these posts first before subscribing.  I love my Sonos system.  I have been streaming Rhapsody, Pandora and GPlay (6 month free when you buy a Sonos device, but not too impressed) but I have really enjoyed using Spotify and am (was?) ready to use them as my primary.  Imagine how disappointed I was when I tried to use it through the Sonos interface.  Fortunately, I only invest $3 for three months.  I am certain I won't continue until the interface improves.  Really bummed about that.

Yes, I wonder why Google decided to include native Sonos support in Google Play Music application.

And with YouTube Music bad time will come for Spotify and related services...

Add a "Play to... Sonos" command!

I switched to Google Play Music for the better Sonos integration (two ways- both in Sonos app and in Google Play app).

Based on comments in both Spotify and Sonos forums, it seems that there is stubborness from both Sonos and Spotify on the issue. Spotify have a program (Spotify Connect) that Sonos could employ to enable Spotify to push content to Sonos. Sonos prefers that Spotify use Sonos's API solution to push from Spotify to Sonos, and that Spotify open up its API to allow better integration with the Sonos app. If either side gave in, it would be a hit to company pride, but it would be better for users. This situation makes a strong case for open standards, but unfortunately both sides have their own proprietatry solutions and feel that as market leaders in the respective spaces, "build it and they will come" should apply.

Both Sonos and Spotify are losing customers over this stupid dispute. Google Play Music is an easy change for me to make, so that's what I've done. Others who are more tied to Spotify are choosing non-Sonos solutions that integrate with Spotify Connect. Both companies would win by putting ego aside and finding common ground. I hope shareholders in each company see this and hold management accountable. We should call on both Spotify and Sonos to rise above 7th-grade pettiness. In the meantime, many of us have to pick a side. For me, right now, that's Sonos and Google Play Music.

This needs to happen soon. Google Music now has this function to play music via their app directly to my Sonos system. Spotify is now lacking.
