[Desktop] Add support for Apple Silicon (ARM64 on Mac)

Feature request:

Add support for Apple Silicon in a future Spotify release on Mac OS.

Apple have recently released a new generation of Macs based on their own Apple Silicon. I hope that Spotify will prioritize native support for this new CPU architecture.  If so the best music platform on the Mac, will continue running great natively on the new generation Mac hardware.

Hey everyone,

Thank you all for bringing your feedback to the Community Idea Exchange and participating in this Beta test!

Your input has been invaluable and helped us tweak the app to make full use of the new CPU architecture.

We're happy to announce that the app is now out of Beta and can be downloaded from our website. You should automatically get the correct version for your Mac's CPU and all updates will be automatic as well, just the way it was in the past.

This idea is now officially implemented! Thanks once more for all your votes and posts.

Happy listening! 🎶

@grubbymits when did you last do a reinstall? An issue has been identified and a fix deployed. Can you please try one more time and let us know how you get on thanks.

@Lonliest_Cabin, about 10 minutes ago 🙂 and I have tried again, same version (1.1.66.578.gc54d0f69) and still have the same problem - I can't do anything with the app except look at Ed, Ariana and Bieber!

For context, I have been the app for a while (with some playback issues) but I got logged out yesterday, for an unknown reason, and had to reset my password too.

The issue with "choose 3 artists" has been fixed in the latest link, I can confirm.

@grubbymits  Did you install from this link?

grubbymits

@Loneliest_Cabin Yes... finder says: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Desktop-Developer-Add-support-for-Apple-Silicon-ARM64-on...
https://download.scdn.co/SpotifyBetaARM64.dmg

Is there a way of getting some logs out of the app? I've tried opening it with a terminal, just in case, but nothing is dumped there.

Loneliest_Cabin

@grubbymits leave it with me for now, sorry for the inconvenience.

Is anyone else having the same issue of being asked to choose artists when you reinstall? It shouldn't show for existing users who have had an account for more than 14 days.

I think i found on small bug on the latest beta.

When you open one of your playlist and go end of the list where is the Recommended -section witch shows your recommended songs based on your playlist. When i scroll it down and click "Refresh" -button. It's doesn't do anything. The list stays the same no matter how many time i click the refresh.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Hey @grubbymits 🙂

We have news.

We've investigated this further and it looks like you might be getting this onboarding for your music preferences, because it was cached by the app.

In this case we'd recommend that you complete it by selecting 3 or more artists and then clicking on Done. No worries. Your recommendations shouldn't be grossly affected by it.

If you want to avoid this step, we'd suggest you run a clean reinstall. It's important to also make sure that all Spotify folders are deleted in order to clear the cache.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Praise be! Many thanks - clearing my cache worked.

Still not able to receive notifications when the song changes. This has been an issue for a while now from what I've seen online. Can we get someone to speak on the topic please?
