Make entire play queue editable

There's currently two queues in Spotify:

• The editable queue. ("Queued tracks")

• The locked queue. ("Next tracks")

If you press the  queue button with tracks in both lists, you can see that these two queues follow each other. The editable queue always plays first.

The problem is having a locked queue at all.

You can't empty it without interrupting playback, and you'll have to use a workaround to do so. You can't reorder it or add or delete songs. After finishing the editable queue, Spotify always continues playback from the locked queue.

The workaround is starting playback at the very last item on a page. The locked queue will then have no further items. Then you can continue by purely using the queue right-click function instead of double-click or enter. This adds items to the editable queue. These tracks can then be reordered and deleted as you wish.

This UI behaviour is, however, not very user-friendly and quite frankly really annoying. It's also very unconventional having two queues in a music player. I've never seen any other software using either a dual-queue system or a locked queue system.

Google Play Music's queue system is really easy to understand and use. Just do what they do.

I can describe it by three (3) easy bullets:

• Double clicking a song starts playing it and adds the rest of the list that the song came from to the queue. (The queue gets overwritten)
• Right click one or more songs to add them to the top ("play next") or the bottom ("add to queue") of the queue.
• Everything in the queue can be removed or rearranged by drag-and-drop

EDIT: I updated the terminology to match the new Spotify. Items are no longer yellow and white, but are now under separate headings and in the same color instead.

Hey, hey did everyone see the new about page.  Isn’t that great, now we can see what bloody city listens to an artist the most or what playlist the most people fond the artist by.  I am so jazzed that Spotify is using their time and resources to bring us this information instead of fixing their play queue so we can listen to the music we want to in the order we want to.  HEY SPOTIFY, WE DON’T CARE THAT EVERYONE IS LISTENING TO _______ IN MEXIC CITY!!!    FIX YOUR F’D UP QUEUE!!!

On a side note, I was going to unsubscribe from this thread as I get notifications it seemed daily of how fed up Spotify users are with this.  But since I recently started my own company, I thought it a good example of how long a corporation can ignore its users.

 @Dommedagsprofet, Can you give us an update on if this is being worked on or is the "Under Consideration" just a ploy to get all of us users to think Spotify gives two hoots about what it's users want without actually doing anything about it.

I'm on a 3 month Spotify trial and tempted to move over from Google Play Music, but the lack of editable queues is an absolute deal breaker. It boggles the mind that a feature that's present on absolutely every single platform is not on Spotify.

To use the Editable queue, just do RightClick on the selected tracks, Add to Queue-- then all of your Added tracks will appear in the Editable queue which has the exotic name of QUEUED TRACKS.

And all of your Editable queue wil play before anything else will play.

Yes, that does indeed work, but I just don't see the point in this extra
step and the uneditable queue is still there at the end of your edited
queue.

@rocket_fish: I'm just an ordinary Spotify user like you. The status update at the bottom of my post is written by an anonymous moderator at Spotify. That's a weakness in the Spotify Ideas board.

Why should part of the Spotify queue remain Uneditable?

Well, I am just an ordinary Spotify user too, so I can tell you unabashedly the inverse of that question-- why do I want to have the whole queue editable? -- I want to prevent the Spotify computers from forcing into my queue the promotedBySpotify and infuriatingToMe advertisements of what I do not want to hear.

Thus, the next question to me is-- How much extra would I pay to have all of my queue free of those Spotify advertisements?  Nothing in this case would I pay extra.  I just use only the Editable queue and "allow" Spotify to fill that Uneditable queue that I never play with all the advertisements for which the artists will pay good money back to the Spotify cause to reduce my monthly premium.

I'm not sure where this thread is starting to go. We are asking for a feature. We are not asking just to be difficult, but because we are currently paying or considering paying for a product that we find is either glitchy, buggy, or not effective with how we are trying to use it. I appreciate discussing ways to get around the issues (such as just "adding to queue"), but I am telling you that me, as a user of the interface, is not happy with the way it works. Maybe we should discuss how we use the interface so that we can consider a solution...

When I listen to music I have collected, I go to my gigantic playlist. I hit Play with the Random engaged. I go to queue, and check out what tracks are there. Maybe I see a track that I like; one that I would never consider not having in my collection, but one that I really just don't feel like listening to, or sharing with others listening along. How do I get rid of it from the queue? Also, How do I tell my party guests that they can add tracks to my playlist, but that they cannot preview songs to find the one's they want without screwing up the queue? How can I rearrange the queue because I want to play two particular songs back-to-back? As of now, this all requires I sit at the computer and nurse things along instead of just editing the queue and letting it do its thing.

I want a queue I can work with (or a different music service).

It seems there are several related complaints with the uneditable queue in this thread:

 - Having two queues is confusing

 - Can't clear the second queue

 - Can't edit/re-order the second queue

 - When the second queue completes, it 'reloads' the queue, re-queueing the songs you just played

 - When double-clicking an album, it adds other albums of the same artist to the play queue as well, adding songs you never selected

Perhaps if we got enough people to tweet about this thread (short URL https://goo.gl/ivsPMP) to @Spotify we can bring a bit more attention to it.
