Make entire play queue editable

There's currently two queues in Spotify:

• The editable queue. ("Queued tracks")

• The locked queue. ("Next tracks")

If you press the  queue button with tracks in both lists, you can see that these two queues follow each other. The editable queue always plays first.

The problem is having a locked queue at all.

You can't empty it without interrupting playback, and you'll have to use a workaround to do so. You can't reorder it or add or delete songs. After finishing the editable queue, Spotify always continues playback from the locked queue.

The workaround is starting playback at the very last item on a page. The locked queue will then have no further items. Then you can continue by purely using the queue right-click function instead of double-click or enter. This adds items to the editable queue. These tracks can then be reordered and deleted as you wish.

This UI behaviour is, however, not very user-friendly and quite frankly really annoying. It's also very unconventional having two queues in a music player. I've never seen any other software using either a dual-queue system or a locked queue system.

EDIT: I updated the terminology to match the new Spotify. Items are no longer yellow and white, but are now under separate headings and in the same color instead.

I can't upvote kudo or whatever this idea enough. This should be top priority for Spotify.

That this doesn't exist is just lazy programming.  Sometimes it's hard to take a step back and make something like this work when it breaks your existing model, but sometimes you have to do it becaues it makes sense. 

I'll agree that the way Google Music does it the best. I'm currently a subscriber there, but thinking about switching to Spotify due to a better music selection, but Google's queuing and radio system are just so superior.

My Thought Process: 9 Steps

a) Should I be optimistic given this recommendation has been around for so long without implimentation?

b) This fuctionality has been provided by other music services, so there is a way to do it.

c) What if there are issues we are not privy to?

d) Is Spotify actually working on this and not communicating it to us?

e) I think the real issue is that Spotify is too complacent to do more than sit back waiting for Kudos to come in.

f) Maybe all I can do is hope that my children, or my children's children will see a world where Spotify has an editable queue.

g) Maybe I should find another music service?

h) This has to happen. This is far too important to not happen.

i) Go back to step "a"

I was a Windows .NET programmer for a number of years.

I have to say this software is incredibly buggy and hard to use. It is very frustrating and I am gobsmacked that Spotify who make millions can allow it to be this bad. 

It is **bleep** and I'm about to putll the plug on my free trial.

Sad but Music is supposed to be relaxing. Instead I end up fighting this software.

Forget the queuing, it is inconsistent, works sometimes, sometimes doesn't. It has a mind of it's own.

For organizing music playlists and playing music, I use only the "QUEUED TRACKS" of 0.9.15 on which I have always an EditableQueue of over 5000 tracks into which EditableQueue I randomize new tracks, new artists, and new albums as I wish.  It works perfectly. 

@InspectHerGadge, I sympathize with your requiring the queue in your player to be "consistent, reliable, and controllable" so that always you can play the music that you want to hear.

What is broken is the Ideas Board process

This >> Ideas Board << in operation prevents any real solution-- by *suppressing discussion, *mislabeling ideas, and *misconstruing simple arithmetic and logic.

For example-- just as an example-- this Ideas Board will not permit a modern and civilized description of what is required in this mislabeled idea of "Make entire play queue editable."

I admire greatly the success of @Dommedagsprofet in keeping up-to-date this Idea statement of "Make entire play queue editable" still applicable to 1.0.16!

What is broken is the Ideas Board that insists on using StoneAge misunderstandings of simple arithmetic and logic that prevent good people from ever addressing the real problem.

In operation, all of the well intentioned people on this Ideas Board-- because of flawed procedures and superstitions-- are forced away from looking at what modern system engineers would call a "complete requirement".

Empirically, every statement of a "complete requirement" on this Ideas Board has been denied consideration by some combination of *multiple requests, *duplicate request, . . . .  Look at the history files of so-called "Closed ideas".  Those suppressed statements of "complete requirement" are not "Closed"-- they are merely suppressed as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary.

Just as an example, the statement "Make entire play queue editable" standing alone is Not a complete requirement-- By no modern arithmetic nor modern logic is "Make entire play queue editable" a >> "complete requirement". <<

The "complete requirement" has several logical and arithmetical components that interact within an integrated "wrapper"-- as recognized and addressed under >> Service Oriented Architecture.  <<  

Depending on which Spotify user community specifies their requirement, the "complete requirement" might be something like the following.

* No matter what the current state of the player, Play exactly by one click the Whole list of up to 500 hours or 5000 tracks of the specified Playlist, Artist, Album, or Track and nothing else, without repeats of any track, unless the user intervenes and

* Permit the users to edit the Whole list after it is Queued to the player, including delete, move, and add by drag-and-drop-- where the user can do all Queue editing without the Spotify computers inserting unrequested tracks or removing requested tracks.  

* And as @EricInWisconsin alerts us above, there may be other requirement components that are necessary-- such as "issues we are not privy to"--  for this integrated "requirement statement" to be "complete".

In particular, the three bullets version-- stated by Original Poster @Dommedagsprofet-- does not recite "multiple requests" to be trashed by this Ideas Board process-- The three bullets are necessary components integrated as a "complete requirement" within a "wrapper":

• Double clicking a song starts playing it and adds the rest of the list that the song came from to the queue. (The queue gets overwritten)
• Right click one or more songs to add them to the top ("play next") or the bottom ("add to queue") of the queue.
