Make entire play queue editable

There's currently two queues in Spotify:

  • The editable queue. ("Queued tracks")
  • The locked queue. ("Next tracks")

If you press the Skjermbilde-2015-04-10-20.52.53.png queue button with tracks in both lists, you can see that these two queues follow each other. The editable queue always plays first.

The problem is having a locked queue at all.

You can't empty it without interrupting playback, and you'll have to use a workaround to do so. You can't reorder it or add or delete songs. After finishing the editable queue, Spotify always continues playback from the locked queue.

The workaround is starting playback at the very last item on a page. The locked queue will then have no further items. Then you can continue by purely using the queue right-click function instead of double-click or enter. This adds items to the editable queue. These tracks can then be reordered and deleted as you wish.

This UI behaviour is, however, not very user-friendly and quite frankly really annoying. It's also very unconventional having two queues in a music player. I've never seen any other software using either a dual-queue system or a locked queue system.

Here's a good implementation suggestion from user Styrke:

----

Google Play Music's queue system is really easy to understand and use. Just do what they do.

I can describe it by three (3) easy bullets:

  • Double clicking a song starts playing it and adds the rest of the list that the song came from to the queue. (The queue gets overwritten)
  • Right click one or more songs to add them to the top ("play next") or the bottom ("add to queue") of the queue.
  • Everything in the queue can be removed or rearranged by drag-and-drop

----

EDIT: I updated the terminology to match the new Spotify. Items are no longer yellow and white, but are now under separate headings and in the same color instead.

Hey everyone, now you can edit your Play Queue on your Desktop, Android and iOS device. You can add songs to 'Up Next', remove songs and clear the queue. Thanks for continuing to bring us great ideas!

The previous version of Spotify allowed removal of queued items whether in Queue or Next Tracks.  The new version doesn't [at least I can't figure out how to] allow removal of items listed under Next Tracks.  This is like super annoying.  Will someone explain why we have Next Tracks?  I don't care about that, I care above what's in the queue.

.. .hi, so is that queque and the NOW PLAYING list the same? 👧

Can't we just have a nice list queued up without the next tracks sitting there. Please allow us to remove the tracks from 'next 'tracks' section - or at least tell us what the beneift is of not being able to delete them. If there is none, then please allow it. Sometimes I swear people who work on the spotifty app are all on drugs.

Hi Guys,

Spotify is a great service. The layout is lovely and i love the color green as much as i love all my favorite colors (pink is also in the list). I have to admit there are some interface inprovements that need to happen...

The Queue has to be more versitle.

1. The layout is perfect, but it doesnt make sense that when im in list view and i remove a song it removes it from "my songs" and not from my queue list... can we say "WEIRD"

2. A swipe feature will make it a simple and confortable experise over all. It feels great when i use it on my phone's OS but when i get to spotify which i always have it on... it messes around with my flow.

3. I should be able to move songs up and downin my queue, wouldnt that be great.

Other features

1. um Genres what ever happened to those?

2. I would actually like to chage the colors on spotify that would be kool... but might be too to ask. lol

3. No really Genres. I need it. PLEEEASE. 🙂 ❤️

I hope someone really reads this because i took ten minutes of my life to write to you guys and to speak to community ova heaa!

PS: you guys should create a pool for songs that i shazam and you guys dont have..

In the desktop version (as of 3/27/15) I did a right click on a song in the queue. There was no option for removing

the song from the queue. I was playing the "classical" mood selection.

The option of removing a song from the queue should be independent of the source of the song.

You should be able to remove songs that are automatically queued, e.g. when you start a playlist and don't want a specific song to be played. As it is now, you can only delete manually added songs to the queue.

Wow, this is old and still not implemented ....

thanks, yeah i know. I was able to do so before, now its all retarded. When
i do that it'll say "removed from music" instead of "removed from queue"

Why has this not been implemented already? I think the current sytem is an awful design choice. At the moment this is really restricting my transition from Google Play Music to Spotify Premium.

Well said!

I can't explain how badly I want to be able to remove songs from the queue. I play long playlists on shuffle at work sometimes, and I often just want to skip through a few songs. I don't want to have to create a whole new playlist just to remove those few songs.

Why can't you just Right click on your playlist and "Choose as current playlist"?  If you have Shuffle on, all of the "Non-editable queue" changes, right?
