[All Platforms] Setting for max Cache Size Allowance

The android version of Spotify currently doesn't have a setting for how much disk space the cache is allowed to take up, so it just keeps getting larger and larger until the entire drive is full.

A music streaming app should not need several gigabytes of  drive space. Give us the option to cap this - getting real tired of getting told I'm out of disk space and having to manually wipe it.

I emailed today and contacted "@SpotifyCares" on Twitter and keep getting nonsense non-answers. When is this getting fixed?

*I know HOW to clear the cache manually, it's just absurd that I have to keep doing it.

That's the problem with big corporations. They don't give a damn about the individual user, until a problem starts to affect their profits. I think the best we can do is to give the app a 1-star rating on Google Play, and mention this bug in reviews of the app.

5GB daily is not a joke. This shortens the life of an SSD and shortens my patience with this too. This has got to be fixed.

I hope it's really "reaching the internal teams at Spotify".

Well, caching results in fewer server requests, minimizing load and maintaining uptime.

It is not in Spotify's interest to allow the cache to be turned off or reduced.

So this excessive cache growth problem has not been addressed after 5 years. This puts the company in a different light. They just don't care.

murpsel

@Roy34 What do you mean - they are fully aware of the problem and actively ignoring it. That's a kind of caring ...

I don't want to clear cache all the time, I want to have things already thur - it is just that I want the cache to have a fixed limit.

Would love some kind of cap on the cache - I can understand the benefit of caching commonly played songs/playlists, but I don't need 10 GB of cached songs. I've already got 5 GB of downloads for the playlists I listen to most often, surely there is some middle ground that can allow smooth performance and reduced storage. It's not as if the cached songs can even be played without a data connection (only downloaded songs can). Perhaps if a song is played x times in period y it should be cached, but if not, it should be deleted as soon as it's done. Tailor x and y to a user's specific storage needs or requests, and you can balance the two well.

spotify seems to be caching every song i play, sometimes the cache size is 4GB, why is there no way to limit the cache size like on deezer, if i wanted music stored on my phone i would download music from the pirate bay and i would not have to pay £11 a month to do that. spotify is supposed to be a STREAMING service
