[Android] Remove the Shuffle / Play Button

Hi, I tried out your new design, which I have mixed feelings about, but nevermind that. The most annoying thing I come over in the new Spotify (for iPhone by the way) is the dumb, big, overlapping, unnecessary shuffle play button that pops up everywhere. Is this a bug or is this on purpose? Could at least had add an option for it. Also, it doesn't look streamlined at all with the current design. Did it even occur that not everyone wants a shuffle play button?

Hey folks,
As some of you will have noticed, this has changed on iOS.
We've updated the idea, so that we can update everyone more accurately with regards to Android.
We're marking this as a 'Good idea', too.
Please know that your feedback is reaching the right teams here.

We'll post an update if anything changes!
Thanks

Believe it or not, this is actually a show-stopper for me.

I'll be returning to Google Play Music rather than put up with this manipulative nonsense. If there's a licensing or legal issue that requires you to force even premium users to either shuffle play albums or jump through hoops to play an album straight through, as the artist intended, then make that clear when signing up to the service.

I want to love Spotify, but you're cutting off your nose to spite your face here.

So, ok, Spotify's probably mainly used to blast random playlists at barbecues, weddings, whatever, on tiny Bluetooth Speakers, but I think some users like to listen to albums (not (again) random compilations, real albums) in the order they were meant to by the people who recorded them.

And that crazy green button is always in my way when I try to access the tracklisting, but I don't want to frustrate anyone so an option to decide which button to display ("Play" or "Shuffle") would be great.

Or, 2 buttons side by side, the good ol' regular "Play" and that "Shuffle" thing, I think there is enough space in the UI for that.

You do realize that you can just leave the shuffle option off, and press the first song, to listen to albums and playlists in order, right? The shuffle button isn't actually in the way. It's just big. Maybe, a big "play" button would be nice, but then people would complain about having to make sure that the shuffle option is on, before pressing the "play" button. I don't think Spotify would want two buttons, https://open.spotify.com/track/6GLm49BXDZ7YMCPnnTCcFM?si=nDN0jqr-S1eNrW_Zf3Z7Aw, because it would throw off the nice centered look. Maybe, a solution would be a mix that and the way it is, now, having a "Play/Shuffle" button, inside of the existing button. The first half could be "Play" and the other half could be "Shuffle". There could be a "/" in between.

I hope you enjoyed my music humor; it came to me, as I was thinking of the words. This is on my Seinfeld playlist. I hope Spotify sees this as a solution.

How about a setting to display it or not.

I like the option to select it via settings. Good thought. Or show not show it.
By having the shuffle button there at top is annoying as just means you have to scroll past it to the first song which is annoying.

When people say 2 buttons I assume that’s what they’re asking for because it wouldn’t change the look of the app too much but would make both people who like the shuffle button and people who want a play button happy. The other solution I like would be the option to choose in the settings whether it’s a play or a shuffle button but tbh I think if it’s an album then it should always be a play button not a shuffle button because if you’re listening to an album on shuffle you’re doing music wrong.

I have a thought that might work for ya'll. An incorporation of both options in one place that is actually two buttons.

If you like this idea, share it to Spotify. It would probably help more to get a hold of their customer representatives, through chat, and suggest it, there. You can send pictures through the chat box. It's difficult to find the area in the website to contact them, though.

Or, even simpler, enable 'Play' when you click on the album cover (as in the PC app version), instead of zooming in.

By the way, speaking of PC/Mac apps, why not being consistent ? Why a big green (i should say, "iconic" in Spotify branding) 'Play' button on PC/Mac, and that same button, but with another function on mobile app ?

I can hear the "Our UX studies proved that people prefer to listen randomly to music on their phone, but in the right order on their PC" argument right there 😄

Yes, it's just big.

Really, really, really big.
