Sort Playlist by Most / Least played (by user)

Sorting playlists by most or least played songs by the user, to me, seems like a great idea that can enhance the user experience on Spotify. By sorting playlists by most played songs, users can easily access their favorite tracks and create playlists that cater to their musical preferences. On the other hand, sorting playlists by least played songs can help users discover new music and listen to tracks that they haven’t heard before. This feature would be more useful than shuffle, as it would allow users to customize their playlists according to their preferences, and it doesn't remove from the user experience by altering existing features. I think the existing personalized playlists like "Your Time Capsule" and "Discover Weekly" don't really work if a user wants to listen to a specific genre or type of music, and if users want to listen to songs they currently enjoy and listen to a lot they can still use the On Repeat playlist.

According to a Spotify Community post, there is currently no way to sort playlists by play count. However, there are third-party tools such as Playlist Sorter and Playlisorter that allow users to sort their playlists by various parameters such as release date, artist, alphabetical order, popularity, tempo, danceability, and more, but as far as I can tell, not by how often the user has played these songs. These tools provide more options for reordering playlists than the options available on Spotify, so the appeal of more complex playlist sorting is already there.

In conclusion, sorting playlists by most or least played songs by the user is a useful feature that can enhance the user experience on Spotify. It would allow users to customize their playlists according to their preferences and discover new music. Although this feature is not currently available on Spotify, the appeal for it seems to be there and it seems like it would be a great feature to let users sort playlists in a way that it matches their preferences, or to find music in playlists they have not listend to often.

I would argue it's not better than shuffle, but it can be better in some contexts. For example, yesterday I wanted to quickly play some music I really enjoy but didn't feel like shuffling or manually adding stuff to the queue. Would have been a life-saver to have this feature.

Shuffle will often favor songs that I have played more and therefore, unless I go through the playlist straight through, some tracks are "lost" and never played. This feature makes sense to me.

I second HarryFL. I'm looking for this feature because Shuffle seems to play the same songs over and over again. I will randomly remember a song that I haven't heard in a long time and then check to make sure it is still in my playlist.

I know true randomness is not going to play every song once before repeating, but it shouldn't play the same 10 songs every time before moving on to other songs.

As my playlist keeps on growing, I definitely tend to forget songs that I don't like enough to listen to everyday, or songs I added a long time ago. So this would definitely be a great feature.

I would love this, when I used iTunes back in the day I loved the listens column. I would prefer to see the count of how many times I've listened to songs in my playlist

With iTunes, it was fairly easy to set parameters to ensure that all songs in a playlist played through once (no repeats) until the end of the list; this was done by working the 'date last played' parameter.  If iTunes could do it [and years ago], Spotify should be able to set up something like it.  Most people would prefer to hear all songs in their playlists before getting repeats.

I have playlists with around 70 songs... the same 10 songs will play on any playlist. I would love this feature, but I would settle for the ability to turn off whatever tells spotify that I like certain songs more than others... The worst part is, most of the songs are only most played because spotify shuffled them in the most and not because I've ever picked them.

As a dedicated Spotify user, I appreciate the continuous improvements and features you provide to enhance the listening experience. I would like to suggest a feature that I believe would add significant value to your platform: the ability to sort songs within playlists by the number of streams.

Overview:
Introduce an option within playlists that allows users to sort songs by their streaming counts. This feature would enable users to easily identify the most popular tracks in any playlist.

Benefits:

1. Discoverability: Users can quickly find the most popular and trending songs within a playlist, making it easier to discover hits and fan favorites.
2. User Engagement: Enhancing the playlist browsing experience by allowing different sorting options can increase user interaction and satisfaction.
3. Curated Experiences: Playlist creators can showcase the most streamed tracks, offering listeners a curated experience based on popularity.

Implementation:

• Add a “Sort by Most Streamed” option in the existing sorting menu within playlists.
• Display streaming counts for each track next to their titles when this sorting option is selected.
• Ensure the feature is available across all platforms, including mobile, desktop, and web.

User Impact:
This feature will be particularly beneficial for users who enjoy exploring playlists to find top tracks, as well as for playlist curators who want to highlight popular songs. It can also serve as a useful tool for listeners looking to stay updated with current music trends and hits.

I am confident that adding this feature will enhance the user experience and continue to set Spotify apart as a leader in the music streaming industry.

Best regards,
