Stop links from automatically playing

When I listen to a playlist and my friend is sending me a Spotify link, if I open it, my previous playlist is lost and the link start playing.

I want to be able to open the link without affecting my current playlist. I want to decide myself what I want to do with this song - play it right away, maybe add to the current queue or just add to my songs and listen later.

This issue is very annoying, it is described here and supported by tens of other users

This would be a nice feature to have to prevent a great annoyance!

Absolutely ridiculous that users have complained about this unacceptable design flaw for over 10 years, and yet nothing has been done to fix it.

Commenting to bump this issue again. Truly a pain! Should be considered an aspect of social features that are being pushed. Also being able to send / share / recommend a song in app would be plus to prevent this. I like having shared jams or playlists but some other one song share would be ideal

Why hasn't this been fixed yet... It shouldn't be that complicated to fix this issue by the way...

Is it because when loading a song link, the song can't be put in focus, only the album it belongs to ?

In this case maybe the corresponding album page should be navigated to (as it's done already) and then just scroll to and highlight the song in the list (with a blink animation or by adding a colored border around it for example).

It would be very nice to have this fixed !

Dear god yes please! There is nothing worse than spending time building a queue and then clicking on a link and it just disappearing into thin air!!

It's such terrible design, I don't know why the developers would possibly think a majority of people want to automatically play a song from a link without even the option to add it to their queue. I can't even see what the songs is on links a lot of the time, so it's impossible to even check. Just open the song page without playing it. If I want to play it then I can. Everyone wins.

For the love of god @Spotify implement this already. How has it been 2 years and not even a single indication of this being picked up, but we do get other garbage "features" nobody asked for.

Make the app I pay for actually work nicely instead of trashing it.
