Experiencing delay with Spotify when streaming to multiple Airplay 2 devices. Works with Apple Music

Updated on 2021-08-07

Hello everyone,

We apologize for any confusion we have caused. To clarify, Spotify will support Airplay 2. Please continue to use this thread to add your votes and comments.

We’ll post updates when they become available.

It’s 2024 and this has not been released. Any time frame when we will get this?

Switched 1 year ago to Apple Music, then influenced friends and family members to switch too 😊 ..

Spotify is showing you the middle finger for 5 years.. Just give them the same response ..!

Seems that Spotify really does not want to implement AirPlay 2. It's pulling wool over our eyes with 'we will do that' since 5 years. Clearly they do not care. If a company does not case, why a customer should care. I'd suggest just to give up, stop waiting and switch to other services.

Spotify, you’ve just lost a customer of 7+ years over this. Back to Apple Music!

This is stupid - Apple users have money to spend. Spotify is the superior streaming service. Forcing users to switch to a different music streaming service because of refusal to implement a free Apple streaming API into the app is an insane business choice, right up there with GM not supporting Android Auto and CarPlay in their new EVs, making customers buy other brands. Get it done! May 2018 is when Apple released the AirPlay 2 API/SDK. I work in a business where we had to switch from Spotify to Apple Music because of the constant drop outs due to not having implemented a simple API that everyone else has implemented without issue.

Aww, this is a bummer that it's still not implemented.

I use Spotify practically all day to focus, and it's a shame to have music stuttering and cutting out when using HomePod.

I really like the service - it's just a shame that a bunch of features like this get kicked down the road indefinitely ☹️

Great suggestion! I experience this delay daily it’s very frustrating.

AirPlay

It's been 2.5 years since the update said "Spotify will support Airplay 2". When will this support come, 2030?

Hi everyone!

I just finished watching the movie "The Time Machine." I thought, you know what, I'm going to build a time machine too, and it worked! I just came back from the year 2050, and to my surprise, AirPlay 2 still isn't available. So my advice, let it go, it's not going to happen.

“Let it go”

The problem with that solution is that Spotify’s inability do what they have plainly stated they will do, results in the inability to listen to Spotify content on AirPlay2 devices without constant maddening dropouts.

AirPlay2 over Wi-Fi is a far superior audio streaming solution to a Bluetooth connection. Everything else supports it except Spotify. I have loads of Apple’s old AirPort Express 2 connected to different hifi equipment around the house. But that’s an old product, so ignore that. Any good TV or Receiver supports AirPlay2.

The problem is, Spotify’s refusal to do what they’ve said they will do, results in just three possible scenarios:

1) Use Apple Music, everything works.
2) Use Spotify with Bluetooth speakers only, and not enjoy all the expensive Hi-Fi gear I have, or HomePods for that matter - since listening to music constantly dropping out is untenable and soul destroying.
3) Continue to wait for them to do what they said they would. It seems they’d rather continue to fight in Apple in courts about AppStore rules than provide Apple users a valid alternative to Apple Music. Spotify makes vague claims that Apple is using tricks to push their users to Apple Music, but the AirPlay2 API has been available for them to use since 2018 and they refuse to get it done. This is the number one music streaming platform by far and it cannot multi room stream or even single room stream without dropouts. Just fix it please.
