[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Yes. And knowing nothing on Chat. And ignoring the entire thread etc.

I wrote to What HiFi about this but like The Guardian got no response.

Implemention may take some time, fine.

Building up a Community like this to get in touch with the folks is cool.

Not responding and letting such a unidirectional „communication“ happen for so long is not cool, though.

Come on, you guys, some little hint - at least - on the direction you’re taking right now (already working on it, come back again in two years, just enjoying seeing you guys waiting for an answer, cannot find all the application forms from Apple ;), you name it) ?

Spot on. Well said.

This is just dire. And insightful not that with big tech I suppose we should be surprised.  Don't have to be happy or silent about it though do we.

just two words: so sad...

I agree with what has been said. An official statement would go a long ways to calm things down, wether if the features never arrives or needs one or two years or dev work.

I will wait till end of 2020 for an official statement on this implementation.
If i will not hear anything about it, i will make the switch to Apple Music for my whole family. Also many friends are waiting for that feature, they all got an HomePod Mini. I will recommend them to look into Apple Music.

Sad, im an happy customer of Spotify in Germany since the beginning.

So please Spotify, just do an official announcement what the status is, do we have to wait, is it still on going, do you have some troubles? Are there any Feature-Roadmaps or something?

DaniloSP_80

It's  not something that one would want to switch over for, at least not in my case, but a good thing to have. Otherwise, people looking for smart assistants will have to look for data-hungry solutions from Amazon or Google.

As others have said, it does seem hypocritical that Spotify sues Apple for locking out the competition in their system, but when Apple provides tools and APIs to implement 3rd party music sources Spotify does not use them.

I've just started 3-month free trial of Apple Music...

Hi,

The new Apple HomePod has was released last week. And they added a new feature where you can tap your iPhone to the HomePod and what ever song is playing on your phone is played on the HomePod also the other way around. Also just implementation of Siri in general where you can ask Siri to play you playlist and things like that because right now you have to airplay it.

Thanks. I hope to see these features

Whilst the silence from Spotify is painful, may I say I cannot find anywhere in the Home App for the Homepod on my iPhone 7 iOs 14.2 that allows one to specify Spotify use. I think I once saw a screen shot of a beta where one could do this. Does anyone know how this would work? Is it that we are blaming Spotify when in fact it cannot be done yet? I am not tech savvy enough to work this out but someone must be.

Still total lack of interest from the Media I wrote to.
