[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Please upvote this idea to garner attention for it.  Thank you Spotify and the Spotify community.  Let's get this implemented so it's ready for general iOS 14 release this September!

Why is Spotify so much slower at rolling out features like this than their competitors?

What is Spotify's stance on this? I'm a bit lazy to surf through 12 pages LOL. Let's go Spotify, bring yourself to the HomePod!!!!!!

Im deeply disappointed that Spotify is ignoring us. There are over 1.5k Votes on this topic now and we still haven't heard anything from them (please keep in mind, that Apple Publicly announced this API Change in June). Apart from the ridiculous voting here, the fact that Spotify doesn't say whether they are going to implement this or not, the customer support saying that they are "looking into it" or not even knowing about this at all, Spotify is still my favorite music streaming service. But like everyone else I am reconsidering my decision to use Spotify. The poor customer support, the killing ignorance and the annoying wait to hear anything about this "New Idea" are major reasons for me to change to Apple Music (+ they have native HomePod integration).

I can't imagine that there is no one at Spotify who is smart enough to understand the importance of this issue, since everyone with a new HomePod (Mini) would reconsider using Spotify in favor of Apple Music because of their crazy good playlists and recommendations. It makes me angry, sad and disappointed to not hear anything about this...

I am checking this everyday and it makes me even angrier to see that Spotify just ignores this. At this point I would not be surprised if this "discussion" (its not really a discussion of Spotify doesn't answer) gets deleted...

If anyone is interested what the customer support wrote:

Sorry to hear you're unhappy with not hearing any update about implementing HomePod support. I’ll be sure to let the right folks know.

Our developers are always looking for ways to bring better service and deals to our customers.
Since it got more than 100 votes, rest assured that it is the sort of thing we test and have conversations with our partners about.
We'll make sure your voice is heard in those discussions, thanks!

Dear Spotify. I added a HomePod Mini to my HomePod and Sonos today. I also realized that Spotify STILL does not support IOS Shortcuts. Between your failure to support HomePod and that, I started an Apple Music trial and used a free service to transfer all my Spotify playlists to Apple Music.

I don't want to do this. I prefer Spotify, don't want to give Apple my money.

BUT... I will take Apple over Spotify if that means better integration. I don't understand why you're not doing this, but you're now JustThatClose to losing a 10-year customer.

Just bought HomePods and started the move to Apple Music. The reason why I held off buying a HomePod for so long is lack of third party app support — now that they do, it’s your move now Spotify.

Please understand that there are many like me (see above posts) and you are doing nothing to help your market share.

So, based on their response on this thread, you can tell Apple was telling the truth in 2019 when their feud happened. Apple is offering them the tools, but instead, they’re choosing to whine even more. Now, even joining Epic’s btching.

Waiting for an update on this.  Looking at transferring from Spotify Family premium to Apple Music once Apple Music trial expires if no update or Spotify decides not to implement.

Just got my HomePod Minis! They’re awesome except for the lack of Spotify.
Gonna give Apple Music another try and see if it’s worth switching.

One thing I did figure out - you can use the HomePod Mini as an extra
speaker for an AppleTV. I haven’t tested it yet, but I think you could use
the Spotify app on the AppleTV and add the HomePod mini as a satellite
speaker. This works with the AppleMusic app on the AppleTV at least.

Hey,

You might be able to stream sound from an Apple TV to a Homepod mini, but you won’t be able to use a pair of those in a home theater set up. That is reserved for the big HomePod.

@SuperAce99

I don't want to discourage you, but the Spotify App for Apple Tv has an annoying bug.

Almost always the audio does not come out on the HomePod, it just goes mute.
