[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

If anyone is looking for alternatives to be able to use Homepod properly, please share wiht me.

I'm looking at:

  • Apple Music.
  • Pandora.

(Being Spotify customer 14 years and bringing my family into it, Spotify has frustrated me)

Just implement it. Your actions or better the lack of it are in no way customer-oriented and is frankly a joke / laugh in our faces.  I'm just too lazy to switch to another streaming client right now, but I'm considering it more and more.

Apple works for me since I simply want to ask for something. Mostly it
finds it. As for more advanced features I don't know.

Still hoping that there’ll be an implementation of Spotify on the Apple HomePod. It can’t be that difficult, but it makes listening to Spotify on the HomePod so much easier.

oneframe

"Bloomberg's Mark Gurman touched on the matter in his newsletter this weekend, noting that Spotify told him there hasn't been a "significant volume" of complaints about the lack of HomePod support." (Source: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/spotify-downplays-homepod-support-but-promises-to-add-airplay-2...)

Obviously, in the grand scheme of things when you factor in non-Apple users it would naturally be a small subset of their user base. But among Apple users, I don't know who would say "Please don't integrate Spotify into the HomePod." No one.

At this point, you can't point the finger at Apple any longer. The delay and inaction are purely Spotify.

The only reason I moved away from Apple Music is the better European selection and the ability to "enhance" the playlist with new suggestions. But now that they killed the "enhance" feature, I'm not preparing to return to Apple Music with its tight integration and better audio quality.

I thought Apple blocked Spotify, not that Spotify is too stubborn.
If nothing changes by the end of 2023, which I to Apple Music.

I have almost completely stopped using Spotify as I migrated to an all Apple ecosystem and the lack of integration as well as the advertised better better music quality have been an issue. 2+ years to implement is just business stalling…

Hi Spotify, please implement this! I heard you have to done it so far because not enough people are complaining about it. That why I placed my vote here and wrote this little comment... native HomePod support would be one of the important reasons for me to stick with Spotify, or to leave it 😉

All the best,

Tim

Day 1,011 since this frankly obvious suggestion was made to you, Spotify. At this point, your refusal to implement, or at least publicly state that you will implement full support for HomePod models is hurting your brand and product.

HomePod Mini and HomePod 2 are both making their way into more people's homes, and many users who are happy with your service will consider switching away from Spotify because they can't use features they paid for in the hardware.

Do you really think that people care who they pay for their music subscriptions? They care about getting the most out of their new purchases, and right now that isn't Spotify. Many users with Spotify subscriptions buy from the HomePod range, and it's up to you to improve your product such that you retain those subscriptions. I think over 1000 days is long enough.

Yes. Apparently we need to Tweet to be noticed. If there's anyone on here
who uses Twitter then would they be able to direct Spotify to their own
forum please.
Paraphrasing, I recall Mr Ek saying that as an entrepreneur he always wants
things done yesterday. Not this though it seems.
