[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

This is a similar request to many others I have seen here that have kind of died off and been ignored despite many votes (and comments are closed).

Are there any plans to implement native HomePod support for Spotify, so we can ask HomePod/Siri to play music from Spotify? I am seriously considering changing to Apple Music because this isn’t available and I have a HomePod in every room. I have been a Spotify member since it started, but it’s severely lacking behind with simple features like this. Please do let me know if there are any plans and I can be patient whilst it is in development if so 🙂

Thanks

@vegea8 you’re right, but I think @ozhanozen means that if somebody (non-Spotify) made a copy of that website to highlight Spotify’s history of failings on this issue (i.e. rather than Apple’s failings) then it would be a great way of presenting the issue to a wider audience.

@vegea8, exactly (@ZJack). What better way to highlight hypocriticism than making irony with their own words?

@ZJack - I came across one but looks an early start to it. It even mocks their website: timetoplayfair.com with the word “its” before timeto... (I don’t want to get banned for posting a link)

I’d love to know who on this thread made it. Good on you! Please post a PayPal donate link so we can help you with hosting and domain registration costs.

Hey @Spotify, https://www.itstimetoplayfair.com and also, https://twitter.com/TimeToPlayFair and https://www.facebook.com/TimeToPlayFair

Check them out!

HA!  Love this.

And in case that one is taken down, here’s a few screenshots that might not trigger their filtering algorithms (won’t be the first time we were censored on here).
