[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

But selecting default HomePod music service is available since last year.
Im not mad about it’s not implemented (well kinda) but what triggers me is that we have no statement WHY it’s not implemented.
if they said well guys it’s possible but not in the way we would like it means - their api is not compatible with Spotify connect and we are looking for solution and talking with Apple.
that would’ve been so amazing… but what we have? Silence …

I agree, it's no longer up to Apple. I find it embarrassing that Spotify doesn't deliver. Amazon and other competitors have already integrated the function.
I currently pay for Apple Music and Spotify only to use my HomePods, because the way via AirPlay is too complicated for me and drains the battery.

The only reason we aren't getting a reply is that there's some political reason Spotify won't implement this and they're unwilling to share it. If it were a technical reason alone I'm sure Spotify would not hesitate to pass the buck back to Apple.

Agreed on the contacting the press front, Spotify themselves did not hesitate to use the press to push for Apple to give them access to such features in the first place.

I literally bought my HomePods after Apple released 3rd party support. I said to myself, "Spotify has wanted this for years, I'm sure they'll release it soon".

So - I bought a HomePod because of Spotify's behavior. And then they pulled the rug out from under me.

Doesn't feel good, Spotify. It feels like I was lied to.

With iOS 14.5 (beta), you can now ask Siri to play a specific song and it will search and play on Spotify automatically. Of course when you ask the same thing to Siri on my HomePod mini, he says he can't find it in your Apple library (if you're not a subscriber or didn't buy the song).

It may be a Spotify thing but it could also be an Apple integration thing - I'm banking on HomePod (tvOS) beta updates to see this same integration to be consistent with each other (iOS = tvOS).

@Atomic_AI that is not going to work like this... you are running an app on your phone the homepod is not running anything like an app, you give it a media stream and that’s it 🤷‍♂️

Any updates or progress on this request?

@Atomic_AI - It's not an Apple thing. It's Spotify saying for YEARS that they want HomePod support, then sulking in the corner like a child when they get their way.

It makes me angry that both companies are putting their customers LAST.

I pay good money to Spotify every month and buy a lot of Apple products. Prioritise your customers for a change.

Please please please add this feature! Or at least talk to us why or why not. 😕
