[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

“Hello and thanks for bringing your feedback to the Idea Exchange. We've marked this as a new idea.
Spotify Staff will look into this idea once it reaches the necessary amount of votes.”

Sounds more like a “**bleep**... No.” We get it that you aren’t happy with apple, but this looks bad PR-wise. HomePod support needs to be flawless. That how you rope in new customers especially when you got the upper hand in the music streaming industry. Please don’t waste the goodwill.

  • How are there still no updates on this?

Still happy on Apple Music here 🙋‍♂️ new iOS 14.5 updates coming very soon - maybe it's not worth trying to hang onto something that's not worthy in the first place and just get yourself on a new platform and enjoy it - I've said this before but those millions in the pockets of the Spotify founders belong to the artists, the very people who are the reason we are all so excited to get on the apps and stream in the first place. Nothing's perfect but Spotify just aren't what they used to be sadly.

You´re kind of right. I just started a trial for apple music. its a shame, that spotify wont allow us to enjoy it on the homepod

Don't know what this means but if it expresses frustration and a growing
dislike of the morals and practices at Spotify, who do not like the
behaviours of Apple it should be noted, then I am with it. I gather Apple
are going to pay double to artists vs what Spotify pay. Have I
misunderstood? Greed greed greed maybe?

Interesting support live chat today, steps on how to set Spotify as default HomePod app - needless to add they don't work 😞

Thanks!

@JamieWake Yeah other people have gotten the same response from Support. That’s what the processes for Pandora is but Spotify still doesn’t do it. This might be a relic from when they had it available for a beta for a small period of time but then it was removed

They need to address this issue right away, Under the media tab on my apple homekit settings I cannot select Spotify because Spotify does not support Homepods yet. If you ask Siri to play spotify she tells you they don't support that. Spotify please you work with siri on all other apple devices except the smart speaker?

Could native support be added to the home pod in the upcoming IOS & IPadOS update?
