[iOS] Implement Native HomePod Support

Details

Just this week at WWDC (June 22, 2020), Apple announced support for third party music services on the HomePod.  I'm requesting that Spotify implement native support for the HomePod such that one or even multiple HomePods will appear in the "Connect to a device" menu on any Apple device WITHOUT having to connect through Airplay.  This will also allow users to ask Siri to play songs from Spotify on their HomePod(s).

Apple is opening up the HomePod, and I know there are many other HomePod users that would love to have native Spotify support on their speaker.

Spotify raising prices soon is yet another reason to move to Apple Music. Spotify you are about to lose yourself a whole bunch of loyal customers over this simple HomePod issue, especially now you are giving other streaming services a boost through increasing your prices. Apple Music pay more per stream to artists and charge less to customers. I understand Apple has other revenue streams but this seems like greed from Spotify. I am also not interested in helping to fund the purchase of Arsenal FC.

I’m holding out for Spotify to directly support HomePod. Eventually my patience will give out and I’ll begrudgingly switch to Apple Music. I even made sure to sign up directly with Spotify so Apple didn’t get a cut. Help us out already Spotify!

Apple finally added support for changing the default music app in iOS 14.5. Which means there is nothing left stopping Spotify supporting native playback on HomePod.

Me: “Hey Siri play my Spotify playlist”

HomePod: “The app hasn’t added support for that with Siri”.
Me: “….. wth????….”

Not even a comment from Spotify. For **bleep**s sake this is ridiculous.

I recently switched to Apple Music an it's great.
Never had such a great integration in my HomePod ecosystem.

I'm waiting for roughly a year now and wasn't able to use Spotify so that I did the decision.

Do it, switch to Apple Music and kick those ignorant bastards in their asses. 🙂

have been a Spotify customer for 10 years but this is making me begin switching to Apple Music.

Recent Spotify price rise may give me leverage with the family. Working on
it.

Just take a look at the release notes for the past 12 months on the Spotify app on iOS AppStore… No feature updates for over a year. This is one too many Spotify problems for me, they seem contented to take my money every month, but are just not improving the service.  Apple Music subscription trial started.

In The Independent today.  We shall see. It should be newsworthy if it can't be made to work but I have been 100% unsuccessful at getting any journalist to take note of any of this.

New Siri music options

Another of the improvements to Siri is that it will now allow the voice assistant to play music from other services, such as Spotify. The way it works is not entirely obvious – Apple has not added a setting to choose your default music service, and instead Siri will try and learn – but it should mean that asking for songs should bring them up in whatever app you tend to use.

I posted this on The Independent

Regarding Siri accessing Spotify. Something that Spotify pressed for. This works on an iPhone and iWatch. Butnot on a Homepod last time tried. There are over 3000 votes for this on the Spotify forum but Spotify are completely disregarding the idea. It shouldn't even have needed to be a forum issue. Should just have been implemented. Pandora did it months ago. So it could have been done even before 14.5. Spotify apparently increasing their prices too and paying less commission to artists than Apple if I understand correctly. Happy to be corrected on any of this. People are leaving Spotify for Apple Music.
