[iOS] Landscape mode on iPhone

Hello folks!

Since we just released "Landscape Mode on Android" and we marked the idea as "implemented", we wanted it to be fair with iPhone users (half of the comments were supporting Android half iPhone) so we have created this idea just for you iPhone users!

We have also added half of the kudos to be entirely fair.

Give it some kudos if you want to see this implemented.

Thanks.

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming to the Community, and adding your vote to this idea!

After talking to the iOS team, we're keeping this idea as 'Not Right Now' as this isn't something we have any immediate plans to implement. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

If we do have any new info to share, rest assured we'll check back in here with a new status.

Thanks.

I know that for myself, a classical music listener, it can be challenging to see the whole title on mobile. It doesn't quite scrolls quick enough, and sometimes it just rotates back to the beginning before getting all the way to the end, where they list the movement number, or excerpt title from a long work. Which is critical information!! I was thinking that it would be quite nice to be able to either rotate the screen on playlists and view the WHOLE title, or on the play screen, have the rotation of the title controllable by touch. (this can also maybe be just a setting if you want it automatic or manual for the scrolling title)

2024 and we do not have a landscape mode on the iPhone. 😪

Because Spotify is an absolute joke!!

Landscape mode support on iPhone for accessibility as it would enhance usability and for iPhone users especially those with disabilities.

Concept:
The idea is for the Spotify player to automatically switch to different visual layouts or animations based on the orientation of the device, providing users with a nostalgic, interactive experience. For example, when the device is rotated to landscape mode, a simulation of a running cassette could appear, with the cassette animation playing in sync with the music.

Details:

• Portrait Mode (Vertical Orientation):
In the default vertical orientation, the Spotify player would remain in its familiar layout with album artwork, song title, and basic controls. Users can scroll through playlists, select songs, and interact with the player as usual.
• Landscape Mode (Horizontal Orientation):
When the phone is rotated horizontally, the player’s layout would change into an interactive and visually engaging design. One option would be to simulate a running cassette. The cassette could be shown in a retro design, with spinning reels and a tape moving as the song plays. The speed of the tape would be synced to the song length, giving the impression of a real cassette being played.

Additional Layout Ideas for Landscape Mode:

• Vinyl Record: Instead of a cassette, a vinyl record could be visualized spinning on a turntable. The tonearm could drop at the beginning of the song, and the record would spin as the music plays.
• Equalizer Visualization: A dynamic graphic display of sound waves or equalizer bars that react to the music in real-time.
• Album Cover Carousel: A rotating display of album covers that smoothly cycles in the background, giving users the feeling of flipping through a physical music collection.

User Interaction:

• In any of these layouts, users would still have access to playback controls like play, pause, and skip. These could be subtly placed at the bottom of the screen or accessed via a simple swipe gesture.
• Additionally, tapping on the cassette or vinyl could allow interaction, such as “rewinding” the song or switching between layouts.

Technical Implementation:

• This feature would use the device’s sensors (gyroscope and accelerometer) to detect when the phone is rotated and automatically adjust the layout.
• The animations could be GPU-accelerated to ensure they run smoothly without affecting the player’s performance.
• Users would have the option in settings to choose between different layouts or disable the rotation-triggered animations if they prefer a more straightforward experience.

Advantages:

• Provides a more immersive listening experience for the user.
• Nostalgic designs appeal to retro music lovers, creating an emotional connection to their music.
• A creative and dynamic presentation that sets Spotify apart from other music apps.

This idea blends nostalgic visual elements with modern user experience, offering a fresh and unique way to interact with music, while also giving Spotify a standout feature.

This is absolute garbage. You won’t give us a standard Spotify view in landscape mode like like you give android users but this is the **bleep** you come up with? What **bleep** at Spotify came up with this? Tell me you don’t listen to your consumers without telling me you don’t listen to your consumers. We are telling you exactly what we want but you give us some BS we didn’t ask for.

Over 3000 people seem to want this. Yet...after more than 10 years, and already having it on Android, it's still not present on iOS. Is it that hard to do? What's the hold-up? Why is it not just implemented by default? It makes no sense to me.

Because Spotify doesn’t care. They know they’re getting our business either way so they couldn’t care less to do a little extra work to make their customers happy.
