App crashing on Google Pixel

We’re receiving reports where the app causes the device to crash. The issue seems to be affecting Google Pixel devices only.

Some users also mention that it takes a really long time to load the app. When hitting play on a song, it flickers between the lock screen and black before powering off.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your rapports - this should now be fixed! Make sure to restart the app, should you still experience issues.

Cheers 🙂

I'm getting a critical error when trying to launch the app on WiFi.

Device: Pixel 7 Pro.

Software: Android 14

App Version: 8.9.52.552

Steps

  1. I have Spotify playing through my web player
  2. I connect to WiFi on my phone
  3. I open Spotify on my phone
  4. The app crashes and closes, causing my entire phone to flash from lock screen to black screen several times, before the phone shuts down. On two occasions, upon my phone restarting, I get a system error telling me that the Android operating system is corrupt and couldn't be loaded.

The app is currently in danger of completely bricking my phone.

Edit: I have tried playing music through the app (not the web player). It is successful when not on WiFi, but the above issue occurs when connected to WiFi. The issue seems to be with WiFi and not Spotify Connect.

I'm having this issue today.

Google Pixel 8

Android 14

Spotify 8.9.52.552

I can browse the app but as soon as I play a song it crashes the phone with flickering between a black screen and my lock screen.

I've tried everything listed: force stop, uninstall, battery, notifications.

Hi, disabling/enabling notifications didn't work for me and I'm still having the same problem as everyone else on the thread. I'm on a Google Pixel 6a.
App version 8.9.52.552.
OS Android 14.
I've also tried unistalling/reinstalling the app, freeing up more memory, and restarting the phone. Issues started happening a few hours ago.

My phone crashes when I hit play on a song. The lock screen flashes a few times and then I get an error message saying System UI is not working.
I have tried uninstalling, clearing cache and data, turning of notification.

I opened the issue on Android's bug tracker as I thought the issue was with Bluetooth, but it appears to be caused by just simply playing a track on the app, posting here in case it should be looked into further: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/350478862

Let me know if you need access to the bug reports I shared, and which email to share it with. Thanks!

I've been having the same issue. Typically listen on a Bluetooth speaker. Tried it without my speaker on and still having issues. I tried deleting cache and storage along with deleting the app and nothing still.

Same problem, and it completely ruined my system UI to the point where it factory reset my phone twice, was working fine an hour ago so I have no idea what's up there...

Phone: Google Pixel 7

OS: Android 14

Version: 8.9.52.552

I get crashing the app, that's perfectly fine but when it comes to completely ruining the UI to the point that my phone gets reset, I find it a bit ridiculous... especially with the price of premium.

Same problem started for me yesterday

Same problem, causes my lockscreen to constantly flash on and off until I force my phone to restart.

Same issue just started for me after close to 2 years of use on this device -

Pixel Fold

Android 14

Version 8.9.52.552

Spotify unusable and having to restart phone, first time I've ever seen the UI crash screen after years and years of Android and Spotify premium use.
