App not working on Volvo and Polestar cars

We've gotten reports that some Volvo and Polestars car users are experiencing issues with the Spotify app after an update.

Some mention that Google Voice Assistant control for Spotify no longer works, or the app UI has changed and it is no longer recognized by the car as a safe app for use while driving.

Hey folks,

Great news - everything should be running just fine now 🙂

Make sure to uninstall the app from each car user profile > restart the car system > reinstall the app (should you still experience issues).

Cheers!

Hi my volvo xc40 suddenly won't let me access Spotify, it asks me to log in like the desktop version it then takes me to QR code and gets stuck. I've reset infotainment system, clear cache, ive un installed and re installed, log out of other devices but still cannot bypass the QR screen as when I scan with my phone the car just stays on that screen at a loss now been a week tried all I can't that others suggested.

@BexburgessSame for me. Stuck on QR & also tried to uninstall and install.

So annoying I've literally tried everything and it's not my cars issue, started after that January update. Works on my phone ok but not my car so can't use the Google assist to control it now. Meant to be hands free and safe these days stuck playing via Bluetooth instead

Same for me, also tried to uninstall/reinstall but no luck. Glad I am still on a free plan or I would be really upset. Certsinly not switching to premium at this stage. Will be considering other playforms if this is not solved...

I have same Issue with my 2022 Polestar 2. Spotify is my main APP in car and I always listen.  Now not working and not usable. I'm very unhappy about this and hope it will be sol ed soon

Ahyhko

It appears Spotify has defaulted to desktop mode rather than the intended Android Automotive OS (AAOS) car mode. Please rectify this immediately.

For all the late comers, the fix was already posted to the thread earlier: you should uninstall the app from each user profile, restart the system, and reinstall it.

Sorry my friend but this is not correct.

Polestar 2 here and did all this several times, but Spotify is not working. „loading content“….

I'm using a Polestar 2 (2024), and the app gets stuck on a loading screen. After following the recommended steps, I can browse and play music through the desktop version of the app, but it reverts to the loading screen after opening another app in the meantime. However, playback continues.

  • Again, uninstalling/reinstalling has not worked for me.
