App not working on Volvo and Polestar cars

We've gotten reports that some Volvo and Polestars car users are experiencing issues with the Spotify app after an update.

Some mention that Google Voice Assistant control for Spotify no longer works, or the app UI has changed and it is no longer recognized by the car as a safe app for use while driving.

Hey folks,

Great news - everything should be running just fine now 🙂

Make sure to uninstall the app from each car user profile > restart the car system > reinstall the app (should you still experience issues).

Cheers!

Hi all spoke to volvo.

This is their message :

So, Volvo do not update the apps within the car system that you can download from the Play store - this is Google that update those. Google has confirmed that the issue is due to them releasing the mobile/tablet app version instead of the automotive version. This may also affect other media apps such as YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Amazon Music, etc.

Current advised Workaround:
Uninstall the faulty app from all profiles in the vehicle.
Restart the display by By holding the home button on the infotainment for 30 seconds.
Reinstall the app.

This issue has been reported to Spotify and Google and is currently under investigation.

At the moment, we have not been given a firm timescale on the repair from Google but they're looking into it.

Same problem (V90).
The workaround does *not* work for me.
I come to a login screen and get stuck at a QR code with a "challenge"

Same on my xv40 ,ive deleted,  reset infotainment system, re installed and get that screen that won't move, volvo said its a Google play store issue under  investigation still.  None of the work arounds have worked for me and I can't use it on my car unless I do via blue tooth or Android auto which doesn't let me use voice  commands to control,  no update on here from Spotify or Google so im stuck so annoying

Thanks for update its working now

I'm premium user but I'm not longer able to logging in on my Spotify app installed on Volvo Sensus OS.

I guess it's because of the war against piracy and modded apps. Please update the app quickly.

The app doesn't work!

Yes - similar issue with older (2019) Volvo V90 - the app "Spotify for Volvo" in my car repeatedly asks me to use my phone to go to spotify.com/pair and enter the 6 digit PIN generated by the app. Once I do so my phone says "successfully paired" and the car app automatically refreshes but on to say "log in failed - you need to be a Premium subscriber" (which I am) and begins the whole sorry process again.

It's possible a recent, and new / not previously available Volvo software download ("Volvo Cars App" - which I cannot run) is responsible but, of course, Volvo are their typical zero help.  I've uninstalled the "Volvo Cars App" but the issue with Spotify persists.

I'm reluctant to uninstall then reinstall the app "Spotify for Volvo" in case, once uninstalled, the Spotify app download is no longer available (perhaps having been superseded by / incorporated in  "Volvo Cars App" which, to repeat, I cannot run).

Any clues, please?

I have paired successfully but on the screen I can see: log in failed - you need to be a Premium subscriber
