(Desktop) Playback issues with local files

We're receiving reports of users experiencing playback issues with local files. This seems to happen specifically on the desktop app, where playback stops at 0 seconds after every song.

Hey folks!

We're marking this as Not Right Now for the time being but it's on our radar.

Hey guys,

I've tried out a temporary fix mentioned before and thought I would share it here:

This was mentioned before but I thought I would elaborate with a step by step guide - the 'corrupted' audio files will have a sample rate of 48000, when you want it to be 44100. You can check what the sample rate is by right clicking your file and looking at properties, under 'Details' it will say "Audio Sample Rate" with a number. If it's 48000, write it down because you'll need to change it.

Open up the Audacity software and dump in your corrupted audio files, then immediately hit export (you don't have to do anything yet!) Before you export it will show a couple options on how to export (mp3, mp4, etc) - ignore everything except for the "Sample Rate" section, and select 44100 in the dropdown.

The file should now work.
It sucks that we have to resort to these methods but I hope this helps at least a couple people.

Good luck,
Bloodtraitor

Been having this issue for a while now. Really annoying since some of my main playlists have a lot of local tracks. Glad to hear it's under investigation but really do hope it's fixed asap.

It seems to play a song or two like normal, but after that, it just ceases to play unless I manually adjust the playback bar. This does not affect putting the song on infinite repeat, which still works like normal, but I'd really rather use the whole playlist lol. It really is incredibly, incredibly inconsistent.

Dear all

I have lost a lot of music and cannot down load any music.  This has happened in the last 5 fives.  I read on one of the comments that you said this will be recitified. unfortunately, it is still on going.  Could you update me on what's happening an when this be resolved.

Is it still not fixed? Absolutely embarrassing. I downgraded a while ago back when this thread started to avoid this, but I can't believe it's still not fixed lol.

What a joke of a client, do better Spotify

I’ve been able to reproduce this issue when switching between local files on PC. From my tests, the songs that freeze are the ones with different audio sample rates (for example, 48000 Hz and 44100 Hz). If both tracks have the same sample rate (e.g., both 44100 Hz), playback works fine without freezing — just like @Bloodtraitor mentioned in the top comment.

I’ve also made a short YouTube guide showing the bug and how to fix it if you have a lot of songs. The solution is to convert all your tracks to the same sample rate. (https://youtu.be/tIOR_yOpS1I?si=WQSAnlXEwbAG__fIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIOR_yOpS1I)

i was hoping that the recent Spotify update would fix this issue but the problem is still occurring.

My Question or Issue

Longtime Spotify user, often playing local files stored on a hard drive. For years, these local files have autoplayed fine, but several months ago, the feed began stopping, seemingly at random. Spotify would finish a song, load the next one, and stop. If I nudge the timeline the song would begin playing. One or two songs later, the same thing happens. I assume a Spotify update caused the issue Any solutions?

Not all the local files are concerned about this bug, but it happens randomly.
Sometimes I listen to a song perfectly fine, want play it back and then it stops.

I hope it will be fixed soo enough, this bug has been around for so long. ( Almost 8 monthes for in m case)
