Premium users hearing ads in music

We've received reports that active Premium users are hearing ads interrupting their music listening experience.

Hey folks,

 

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this issue.

 

This should now be fixed. If you're still having issues, remember to log out of the app and back in again 2-3 times in a row in order to force a resync.

Still happening today - fewer of them. But still occurring. I hope this isn't a beta test.

Same issue, it got me really upset. That's the reason I pay for premium. It had never happened before.

Hey there folks,

 

Our tech teams are currently investigating reports of Premium users hearing ads. To help with the investigation, it would be great if you could send us the follow details (if you haven't already):

 

  • The make, model and OS version of your device(s).
  • App version, or are you using the Web Player?
  • Type of ad you received.
  • Any troubleshooting you've tried (log out/log in, clear cache, clean reinstall, another device, etc.)

If possible, feel free to include a video showing how the ad appears from your end. Should the files be too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us as unlisted YouTube videos or via Google Drive. Just make sure it doesn't include any personal info.

I hear them in my BMW that has Spotify connected, when using the Daily Drive. Slightly annoying and funny as they are from all over the world and completely useless to me.

I'm seeing ads when listening through a Google home device. Device is linked to premium account.

Hello,

 

I am experiencing ads while using my Spotify Premium Individual subscription, even though my plan includes ad-free music listening. Below are my account and device details:

  • Username: <snip - Moderator Edit>
  • Plan: Premium Individual ($11.99/month + tax)
  • Next Billing Date: <snip - Moderator Edit>
  • Device: iPhone 14 Pro
  • iOS Version: 18.3
  • Spotify Version: 9.0.16.583

 

Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Already Tried:

  • Verified my account is still Premium
  • Confirmed payment is active
  • Checked for app and iOS updates
  • Reinstalled the Spotify app and restarted my device

 

Additional Notes:

  • I have not logged out and back in yet or cleared the cache, but I can try that if needed.
  • The ads appear while streaming music, not podcasts or audiobooks.
  • The issue persists across different networks (Wi-Fi & cellular).

It's been a week or so that I get ads while using the app on the phone, not happening with the web version. 

What is going on?  

No troubleshooting tried, so far. 

I'll try reinstalling the app, if ads disappear, I'll report it.

It makes useless paying for the premium...

 

EDIT: it seems that in my case only happens while listening to podcasts.

I get ads on Spotify with premium inbetween podcast episodes, it's happened on my Samsung s22 and pixel 7.

If I skip it it just serves another, I don't pay $250 a year to listen to ads

Same as @Jasong2 , maybe this gives a direction to the team, as it seems something that affects mostly podcasts...

It only happens with the app, I have checked from MacOS and it's working as expected.
