Search in "Add to playlist" menu not working

We've received reports that the search function in the "Add to Playlist" menu doesn't work properly. When something is searched, it causes the menu to become unresponsive. The issue appears to be predominantly on Android.

We're currently looking into this. We'll keep you posted here with any updates we have.

Strange work-around that's functional so far:

  1. Click "Add to other playlist" or click the green-check on the song.
  2. Write the prompt on the playlist search (ex: "rock")
  3. Click on the Recent button (at the bottom of your screen) to see a preview of the recently used apps.
  4. Click on the Spotify preview to enter app again.
  5. Now the search has worked (all the playlists with the word "rock" appear).
  6. Select the desired playlists as you usually would.
  7. Click the Back button at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Now the song should be added to all the playlists we just selected.

My Question or Issue

In the past few days, a new issue has appeared that’s become quite frustrating. The problem: the search field above your list of playlists when adding a song to a playlist does not work. I haven’t found this issue mentioned anywhere.

How to reproduce

1. Press and hold on a song and press ‘Add to playlist’ (or ‘Add to other playlist’) – or tap the + or  button (depending on whether the song is in a playlist already).

2. A pop-up with the title ‘Saved in’ appears at the bottom of your screen. Swipe up.

3. A search field with the placeholder text ‘Find playlist’ appears below the playlists the song is in (if it is in any).

4. Type anything into the search field. Nothing happens.

This issue occurs regardless of whether the song is in any playlists, and it doesn’t matter what you type, nor does it matter if you press your keyboard’s enter button. It happens to all songs, and it also doesn’t matter if you wait a long time. I believe it happens on both Wi-Fi and mobile data. I haven’t tried offline mode.

This does not happen on desktop – only in the Android app.

I’ve tried signing out and back in twice and clearing the cache multiple times, in both my phone’s settings and the Spotify app itself. I’ve also tried a clean re-install, following these steps exactly, and I’ve updated my system OS and tried different Wi-Fi networks. Nothing has worked. The issue began a few days ago (perhaps five days ago).

So basically When  I select a song To go on a Playlist there's Usually an option after you click on the green check mark Of searching For a specific Playlist And usually you type that in what you were looking for or close to it in a list of them Usually pops up and it's not doing so and I've tried it on separate devices Everything else seems to work correctly except that. So basically you would have to go down like old times just keep scrolling and scrolling hope you find the Playlist To add the songs etc. I do believe this may have happened before Time to time but I don't think it's happened for a while long while. I've tried restarting the phone or device Uninstalling and then reinstalling etc. Still Still not changing anything. My question is has anybody else experienced this as well. I'm really just wanting To let the Tech people at Spotify know hopefully they can correct this As it makes so much Simpler when adding songs to Playlist As I do very often As I have hundreds of Playlist etc. I haven't been able to figure out how to directly contact Spotify To let them know of this malfunction.

I'm having same exact problem. Galaxy s23 ultra, started on Friday after latest update. I revered back to an older version about half a month ago via apkmirror and same issue. So makes me think it's server side? Idek

Im facing the same issue for about two weeks I think.

One workaround is while searching scroll until you find a folder (if you have one) selecting that and then going back to the main playlist menu. Now you can find the playlist, but only one as the same bug occurs as soon as a playlist is selected.

Also. There is no final step to complete or exit the playlist selection. Instead of swiping the menu down a button to confirm would be nice.  This is really bugging me too.

Hope a fix can be found.

Strange work around, but it does actually work. Better than nothing for the moment, thank you.

I found a workaround in the android app: type in whatever you are trying to filter your 'saved in' playlists. Nothing will change as others are saying. But then click your androids 'app switcher' button , and then click the spotify window again to go back to it. Now the filter works.

But this is a serious bug that really needs to be prioritized and fixed. Spotify is discriminating against Android users.

Workaround works for me, too. But very tedious process, especially, if one wants to add a song to several playlists. Please fix asap.

UGH! @spotify, can we get this figured out? This makes the way I listen and don't my music impossible! As a longterm power user, this needs to get figured out ASAP!
