Smart Shuffle keeps turning itself on

Hey folks!

Some of you have reported that Smart Shuffle is automatically turning itself on again after being switched off. This is now being looked into.

Note: The Smart Shuffle feature works on a playlist-by-playlist basis. If you turn it off on one playlist, it doesn't mean that it is turned off for all playlists.

Hey folks,

Just a heads-up that you can now toggle whether Smart Shuffle is available on your mobile apps from the app settings!

1. Tap your profile picture at the top.
2. Tap Settings and privacy.
3. Select Playback.
4. Switch Enable all play modes off and you're good to go!

As for this Ongoing Issue thread, our tech folks are doing their best to figure out the root cause of the issue itself.

Please just give us a setting in the options to disable it permanently. I am so close to getting apple music because of this one feature alone.

Happening to me also. I'm on the latest version of the spotify app on windows 11. I'm a premium user in Australia.

Every time I turn off enhanced shuffle, it turns itself back on. At other times, it appears as though it's off and injects songs that are not on my liked list. 

What this screenshot doesn't show is that enhanced shuffle was turned off and then the Billie Eilish song started playing.

I hope this wasn't a design decision somewhere and this is a genuine bug you're trying to track down!

EDIT: Here we go, just two songs later, the shuffle button is showing regular shuffle, but Spotify seems determined that I be a Billie Eilish fan.

I don't know if it is relevant to the issue at hand, but the issue that @Xahalya is having sounds similar to mine, but it doesn't involve smart shuffle, I regularly play my playlist at work, and some times at random, the music will stop playing, it doesn't crash the app, but i have to restart the app to get something playing again, and for some reason, Spotify will forget what the prior session was (I use the same playlist for work every day, and typically it would remember which song it left off on from the night before), like what was last being listened to before the playlist completely stopped playing. If it helps, using yesterday for example, Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly" was the first song playing for the day, and about 2-3 hours later, the playlist suddenly stops playing, progress bar and the play/skip/back buttons vanish, the app forces it back to the page when you first click on the playlist, and the "Now Playing" tab is forced back to Colbie Caillat's album where "Bubbly" is sourced from, and tapping on it doesn't do anything, have to close the app and restart everything again

Also noting i would get a screenshot, but this is a very sporadic issue that happens, happens almost once or twice a month at random. I am on an iOS system which is at the time of the issue, 17.5.1, its in process of updating rn to see if it was just an issue with the version it was on

I am just having this happen to me but I will playa song in like a country playlist and then after the first song it will play another song just not the even in the playlist like I went from gods country to F u by CeeLo green how do I fix this or is it a bug

Smart Shuffle is annoying in the first place.

1. With a bad internet connection it causes my entire playlist to freeze since it cannot load the random song it decided to add.
2. It has this bug where it turns itself on.
3. I make a playlist to listen to a specific set of songs, I don't need it filled with random songs.
4. It honestly feels like a cash grab, like spotify is gaining money by recommending specific songs. 
5. It interferes with the ease of using regular shuffle.

Just remove it please. please. please. People been asking this for MONTHS....

I’m currently unable to listen to an album/playlist in order - Only one song will play then it will automatically go into ‘songs recommended for you’. I assume smart shuffle is doing this, but I don’t have it switched on. So it’s impossible to listen to an album! 
Any ideas how I can fix this? From searching on here, I can’t seem to see anyone with the same issue…

I have this problem as well. Spotify is unusable like this! 

have it on all devices and on all playlists. iPhone 11, iPad Pro 2022 both are updated, Windows 11. It’s happening when streaming to Sonos. But also when just playing on my phone. Smart shuffle enables itself immediately after disabling it. And the playlist I made shuffles again and again and again. It’s constantly playing the same songs on the same order, because smart shuffle enables itself constantly and after that the playlist shuffles. 

why can’t we disable smart shuffle from the settings? I never use smart shuffle.

it happens to me too on windows 11 version 1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c
i havent tried anything and have no idea how i could possibly fix it

it seems it only switches to smart shuffle if i minimalise the app even if i dont have normal shuffle on
please help 😞

Spotify Admins,

 Now the only shuffle option on web player and iOS App is Smart Shuffle. Please allow use to disable smart shuffle all together in our profile options. I want to listen to the playlist I have painstakingly built and don't need your suggestions of songs "Similar", they AREN'T!
