Spotify app is skipping after a few seconds on Samsung TVs

We've received reports that the Spotify app is skipping after a few seconds, with multiple mentions of Samsung TVs.  The reports note that tracks are playing without audio on the Samsung TV devices, and trouble-shooting has already been tried.

Hey folks,

Thank you for reporting this to us. An issue has been identified regarding skipping on Samsung TVs. The right folks are looking into this and working on a solution.

We're not able to provide an exact timeline for a fix, but we'd recommend always keeping your Samsung TV's firmware and also the Spotify app up to date. This way you will ensure you're on the latest version and will receive the fix as soon as it's out.

For anyone experiencing this with a different TV brand, make sure to share your details in this thread.

Thanks!

Same issue with my Samsung Frame QE43LS03AAU. No sound and after 9 seconds switch to another song from another playlist. After contacting with Samsung, reset of tv, app's refreshed, app's reinstalled. No improvement. Very annoying. Logging out is difficult almost no time to log out from the app.

Any update on the issue with the Spotify APP restarting every 9 seconds on Samsung TVs?

Having same problem on NVIDIA Shield. Latest updates across devices. Shield connected to Samsung TV. 10 seconds no music then skips song. Been happening for months now.

Hey @Everyone, I connected my TV to my phone's hotspot and spotify started working normally. That made me realize that this entire issue could have something to do with the router's DNS settings.

After changing the DNS settings on my TV to 8.8.8.8, normal playback resumed after switching back to the wired connection. If you can log in to your router, try changing the primary DNS to either 8.8.8.8 and the secondary one to 8.8.4.4. For protection against malware, you can try 1.1.1.2 for the primary DNS and 1.0.0.2 for the secondary DNS.

If I'm not wrong, this issue has something to do with your network settings, so try tweaking that and see if it resolves the issue. Good luck!

Yes same issue is happening with my Samsung Sheriff 65 Inch TV. The spotify app jumps to different songs and nothing plays. No audio, skips to multiple songs. Have done all the basic troubleshooting like reinstalling the apps on both TV and phone, checking for updates, deleting accounts and reinstalling. Nothing works.

@Kevinjohn2 : Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I could also get it to work when using my phone as a WiFi hotspot. Unfortunately, my router firmware does not allow to set custom DNS servers. I tried setting the DNS directly on the TV, but that didn't help. So, I need to find a way to set the DNS on the router side. Maybe I can put it in bridge mode and use another older router that I have lying around to do the DNS and DHCP thing.

Anyway, it's still strange that only the Spotify app doesn't work correctly, so there's definitely something wrong with the app. Would be much easier for all of us if that could just be fixed once and for all.

@scheino , I'm not sure if this will work for you, but it did for me. If you're using a wired connection for your TV from the router, first set the the DNS manually on the TV. Now switch to the Mobile Hotspot and play a song on Spotify.

While the song is playing and without exiting the Spotify app, switch the connection back to Wired. Then press the return button on your remote until you're back on Spotify. Resume playback and see if that works. Dunno if that works for wireless connections as well, but it did for my wired setup.

Spotify hasn't stopped working correctly after that, even after long-pressing the power button to restart the TV.

@Kevinjohn2  Will definitely give that a shot later today. Will report if it worked. Thanks again

Alrighty. Hope it works.

Unfortunately, it didn't.
