Users on Android devices can't play content in Offline mode

We've received reports from Android users mentioning issues with Offline mode. When the device is set in Airplane mode or internet access is disabled, the app gets stuck on a black screen until a “You’re currently offline” error is displayed.

Hi there,

Our tech folks are currently looking into this. If you're experiencing this issue, make sure to add your vote and share the following details:

  • your device's make, model and OS version
  • the version of Spotify you're running
  • whether you're seeing
    -- a black screen;
-- or an error message saying you're offline
  • timestamp of when you last experienced the issue including your time zone

A short screen recording which captures the exact behavior in action would also be greatly appreciated.

We'll keep everyone posted here as soon as we have any updates on the matter, so subscribe to the thread from the three dots menu at the top to stay tuned.

Cheers 🤘

I just stopped my Premium account, because of the price increase and the
lack of support. Want more money? Have a better service.

I'm having a similar issue, Spotify will work in offline mode but will only play 20 odd songs. I don't have many playlists, tend to just shuffle everything! Doesn't matter if I restart the shuffle, just goes back to the same 20 odd songs when offline.

I got my Spotify to speed up at opening. I have 1128 Liked Songs, 187
Albums, save files to SD card. First I had to make sure all files showed
as "downloaded", and re-downloaded whatever was missing. Then I confirmed
it was in "Offline" mode. My phone had at start of all this taken forever
to open.
It started to behave better after i engaged Battery saving app on phone
and made Spotify, and 30 other apps, one of the apps able to be put to
sleep, made it NOT use data, NOT work in background. Put whole phone into
Power Saving mode, restarred phone. Opened phone fully, but not any apps,
not even Spotify. Turned phone completely off. Waited ten or so minutes,
(let phone cool down). I turned phone back on, no apps should be opening
because I put most to sleep when not in use, then I turned on Spotify and
BAM! It started uo , quickly showed Albums, quickly added the text, ans
when I clicked My Library, most was already listed, lit up, and just a few
rapidly opened in succession. Ding, ding, ding, ding...(no sounds were
happening. Thats me "dinging" as each media file lit uop.) I clicked to
see "Liked Songs", same thing. Fast. Just once or twice has it been
empty-looking upon opening, because I had Closed all apps before turning
phone off. Leave Spotify open, but close all other apps before turning
off or restarting the phone.
*** Note: Spotify will go silent if its not playing on top, because we've
put phone into Power Saving, and made Spotify not use data or power if not
in use, and in this case, "in use" reads as "playing on top", and only app
in use.

Hiby r4 android 12, new Spotify download, black screen , offline message. . Downloaded music won’t load offline. Downloaded music disappeared when recycling off and on. With internet back on the system appears to continually download music again. New 256gb sd card used for downloads and and other music downloaded from my pc. This music is intact and is played with the Hiby player. Complete reboot and reload. Same issue.

accessing the downloaded music is a major issue for my needs.

Hello dear Spotify Team,

I have also been facing (maaany) issues with the offline mode, amongst which is this issue with the black screen. First...

some useful infos for the devs 🙂

  • Google Pixel 7a, Android 16, GrapheneOS 2025100300 (latest)
  • Spotify 9.0.84.1340
  • It happened twice in the last month that I only saw a black screen when offline. The second time around I could see the menu-bar on the bottom, but still only a black screen in the rest. The only thing resolving the issue was getting online again.
  • Sadly I have no exact timestamps, it was during end of september both times

I would really appreciate fixing old bugs (also the many bugs with long loading times and the offline mode) before adding even more changes and features (even though I know, features are more fun to implement :P)

Other offline / downloaded content issues:

  • When in a slow cellular network, Spotify still shows a loooong loading screen at almost every new screen. Clicking a playlist that I have downloaded already still triggers long loading screens, before I'm able to press play.
  • Offline search is very buggy. The search is very slow, seemingly finishing a new search-run for every new character (even when I typed out the full name already). Clicking an artist often doesn't show all their songs, or sometimes shows an error that I'm offline. I have a little over 6000 songs downloaded, which is probably more than other users, but not a size that any application should struggle with

Hi Spotify team

I have been having issues with your app starting from mid September and I have never experienced it before It keeps showing black screen until I connect to my internet connection which like I said I have never experienced before.

My device is HiOs.v6.2.0(Q-P93-200716) android version 10 Spotify version 9.0.84.1340

Actually when this issue first started I thought it was normal but when it continued even with reinstallingclearing cache and countless logins it still didn't change.

I'm already tired of all this if this matter isn't solved before the ending of this month I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription from your app because why will I be paying for the offline package without being able to use it.

    Please fix this issue
