My Question or Issue
Spotify podcasts stopped working on Google Home connected speakers.
1. When I ask Google Home to play Spotify podcasts, or when I cast from my iPhone to a Google speaker and try to play a podcast, nothing happens.
2. When a podcast episode comes up in a playlist (e.g. Daily Drive) while the playlist is playing on a Google speaker (either direct or casting), the episode is skipped without notice and only music tracks are playing.
The issue became apparent this week but might have been present in December 2021.
Steps taken already did not resolve the problem:
- logged out on Spotify mobile
- updated Spotify on mobile
- unlinked and re-linked Spotify in Google Home app
- restarted my router
Please help!
Hey there folks,
Thanks for posting in this thread!
We've done some further investigation and looked into this with our teams, and it seems like certain podcasts may not be playable while using the Connect feature. We constantly work on improving the app and its features, that's why we appreciate you taking the time to raise this with us.
Keeping our fingers crossed even more podcasts become available in the future!
If anything else appears, we're just a post away.
Thanks for the info @PodPod!
@Brahka, are there any other podcast episodes this issue occurs with? Could you share the links here?
Cheers!
Hi there,
the funny thing is that one of my Sonos (PlayOne) works now, but the other one still has the issue (Sonos Connect).
No changes when trying with local files:
these can‘t be streamed.
I need to test, how it works in my car - where I also had issues.

Hey there,
Thanks for providing us with more details! We appreciate it, as it helps our team investigate this further and narrow down the cause of the issue.
@Brahka - just to make sure we cover all bases, would you mind playing a podcast you usually don't listen to, to see if the same thing happens there? Should you encounter the same issue with a different podcast, it would be great if you could send us a link to it.
@PodPod - could you let us know what kind of devices and OS you're using, along with your current Spotify version?
We'll keep an eye out for your replies.
Hi Maria,
I am not able to play an SWR2 podcast via Sonos Play One, Sonos Connect or in my car ( Volvo Spotify app).
Same for my local music files on my iPhone.
When trying to connect, I see the devices, but with a text below:
„Dieser Song kann nicht abgespielt werden“
From iPhone or with BT headset no problem.
Hope this helps
I forgot to mention:
all other Podcasts I have tried work fine.
And here is the link:

Thank you both for the info.
@PodPod, does this happen with all podcast episodes?
Cheers,

Hi there!
Living in Canada, just wanted to say that I experience the same issue: some podcast don't seem to be accessible on my Nest Mini or my Chrome Cast.
Here are the ID of the podcasts I found are not working:
* https://open.spotify.com/show/4yAMpJPFozotIKRZxVxhqm?si=d77407b71f6a4053
* https://open.spotify.com/show/2SWBb7PWlslkwg2NVFDsZd?si=dbfff81d70f14b26
Hope adding this post will help you find the issue! Have a great day 🙂
I cannot stream any podcast episodes with Spotify Connect if apparently the show is externally hosted.
I checked via the Spotify developer API. For all shows which get "is_externally_hosted": true I get the message above and cannot get the show to play on the Spotify Connect speaker. With all shows having "is_externally_hosted": false that is no issue.
Why?
I recently have been experiencing an issue that any new episode of podcasts won't cast from my Pixel 7 to my Google mini.
I have reloaded Spotify
Unlinked and relinked to my Google home app
Reset the Google mini and have attempted this same issue on multiple Google minis I own currently same issue.
While as soon as a new episode of the podcast drops I can then cast it with out issue
This needs to be fixed asap. Really annoying not being able to play pods through spotify connect.
