Spotify App on LG WebOS TV

Spotify App on LG WebOS TV

Spotify app is now unavailable on LG WebOS TVs. Are there any plans for it to make a comeback updated or should I find a new way to listen to Spotify on my TV?

I have a LG and can't use Spotify any more on my TV , but i've seen that Deezer suports LG.

I've now installed Deezer in my TV and will eventually change my account from Spotify to Deezer beacause Spotify can't give me what I want as a customer.

I’m switching to Deezer. Works perfect on my LG. I suggest you  do the same. A lot of music, a great app, and lyrics feature

Same Problem !!!!!! :-(:-(:-(

I have been using Spotify since December 2008.

There has been a lot of both bad and good updates throughout the years, but I've never wanted to leave. I still don't. But when I found out that there's no app on the TV I bought during Black Friday, I was really disappointed.

I really hope you figure this out.

Hey guys, I’ve been using Spotify since 2010 and have been a paid subscriber for about 4-5 years.

I just bought a LG OLED Smart TV (C7P - rated as the best Smart TV in 2017). I mainly bought this TV for streaming content in the best quality possible. The quality was extraordinary but when I came to find out Spotify is not in their App Lists, I was stumped! I thought it was because I didn’t look deeply enough and might have missed it. Instead, I searched for other popular apps I’m subscribed to and came to realize music streaming services like Tidal, Google Play Music, Pandora, etc wasn’t in their App List either! I’ve also tried searching for video streaming services like HBO GO and it’s also not in their App List. I even tried finding Deezer and it’s not in their App List either!

I believe there’s a reason why popular streaming services like Spotify are not a part of LG’s App List. LG Smart TV’s lack of popular streaming services is the main issue. For those like me who recently bought a LG Smart TV, the only way to get those content is to connect a media device like Google Chromebook or Amazon’s FireStick to your Smart TV. As for the rest, I’d contact LG and demand availability for popular streaming services.

As for me, I’ll be returning my Smart TV since it doesn’t serve my purpose.

Any plans to release the app on webos? Love Spotify but planning on moving over to Deezer as need it on my TV

Deezer is available, I downloaded it this morning on my b7. Also believe google play is too.

Content in the app store can varie after what country/firmware.
On my I have Deezer, and it works fine.
To get apps in the LG there has to bee a dual communication/developing. Both LG and the content deliverer has to do some work. So in my opinion it is not fair to blaim LG only if it's missing an app.
But yes, it's a pitty there is a lack of good apps for several, like Spotify, net radio, and more.
That said, I now use the previous mentioned tiny streaming "box" from Yamaha, and I for sure don't miss the Spotify app anymore. Sound quality is far better than when I streamed via the TV to my amplifier. I did not want to buy the low-priced ChromeAudio cast, as it lacks a good DA, or digital output. I thought. A friend of mine confirmed that the audio out from the chrome cast actually can deliver digital out via IR, but you need a bit special cable for it. This makes use of your stereos DA, so if you have a good DA in your stereo, you actually can get "HIFI" from the ChromeAudio too.

Hey fikse,

As a Software Engineer, it doesn’t make any sense that my Samsung Smart TV; which uses the same operating system (WebOS 3.5) as my LG Smart TV, contains all the popular streaming services mentioned in my last post.

Fundamentally, WebOS 3.5 is no different from any other Smart TV that supports it. It begs the question as to why LG’s Smart TVs doesn’t contain popular streaming services like Spotify when other Smart TVs using the same operating system does.

I understand both LG and developers must come to an understanding when releasing software content, but to see the majority of popular streaming services not available in LG’s Smart TV platform leaves me to believe LG is the one to blame.

Even if there are similarities, Samsung use Tizen OS while LG use WebOS. I know for sure it is not identical... Still, your points is there, Samsung does a far better job than LG when it comes to amount of apps.
In the case Spotify, however, this is solely Spotify's choice to remove the apps for most/all proprietary TV OS. Exception is Android TV and Google Cast, AFAIK.
You can't seriosly blame LG in this case.
Read and learn 🙂

My guess is that Spotify does this to force TV-manufacturers to agree in one platform, as it will reduce Spotify's need of maintaining several apps. Kind of understandable, but I would prefer that Spotify at least is a tad honest, and eventually explaing why they cannot just keep working apps (as the LG and other brands apps) stay as they where, and let them live as long as the TVs with these proprietary OS's exsist.

  1. 5 months without any update... Unhappy... 😞

LG, would you please, at least, tell why can't we have the app back?

We have bought your product and deserve an explanation.

Like all the rest, I'm hoping Spotify will eventually release a new (and better) version of it's app to LG webOS. Months later since they droppped support and no news yet!

From Spotify website [in swedish]:

"Utover detta tas Spotify ocksa bort fran LG TV-system den 3 juli 2017 medan vi arbetar pa forbattringar. Vi hoppas pa att kunna erbjuda en battre version av Spotify till de har i framtiden. Hall utkik!"

...LG TV-... ...while working on improvement...

Ok, 5 months now and Spotify are still working on this??? What? Have Spotify outsourced this problem to the kindergarten???

Well, I will give it a couple more months and then cancel my Spotify family premium account if the sh*theads at Spotify don't find an acceptable solution to this problem!!!

Another disappointed customer here. Need Spotify on my LG Smart TV. C'mon Spotify/LG. Sort it out.

Sort it out please, your suppost to be making life easier not harder, didnt have this problem with the old vinyl and turntable

I guess the problem is on LG's side they didnt renew their license contract with spotify

This is deeply dissapointing. As much as I love spotify and my playlist on it, I am also considering cancelling my premium subscription due to the fact that they are either unable or just unwilling to fix this issue.

I really loved turning my TV on as I came home from a long day at work, and putting on my favourite playlist on spotify and just lying on the couch, looking out the window, singing along and thinking about all the good things in life. It's not the same with the laptop or headphones.

Also have this problem, Spotify and LG need to fix this !

The only fix here is to buy a casting device like chromecast
