Didn’t see it mentioned, but there is also pornography on Spotify. My son stumbled upon it and it is not caught by the explicit filter. Nothing like an audio platform forcing my hand to have the birds and bees conversation. Gonna have to unsubscribe my family without appropriate parental controls.
The fact that Spotify is TONE DEAF on this issue is **bleep**ING **bleep**ED. I am in the process of leaving spotify over this insanely STUPID move.
WHAT KIND OF EXECUTIVE MORON THINKS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 12 AND 13 IS:
KIDS APP FOR TODDLERS AND FULL ACCESS WITH ONLY ONE TOGGLE FOR ALLOW EXPLICIT CONTENT OR NOT!?!
GET**bleep** TOGETHER.
DONT EVEN BOTHER REPLYIING WITH SOME DODGY**bleep** ANSWER!
BY THE TIME SPOTIFY 'GETS WITH IT' MY KIDS WILL BE 18 AND OLD ENOUGH, AND THAT WILL BE 12.99 * 12MONTHS * 6 YEARS OF PROFITS YOU WILL LOSE FROM ME.
Yes, @Spotify, please do this, or I’ll switch to another music service.
Thank you for this excellent post. I agree 100%.
Exactly!! This has become a huge problem. My 12 year old should not be watching hazbin hotel videos on a music app. Make a separate video app if you need to. Please let us turn it off
13 year olds should not have access to these videos either. I don’t let them have TikTok or unlimited access to YouTube. Please please turn this off. It’s 2025 I know there are a TON of parents who want the same thing. Enough
I am looking to do the same thing, restrict video access. I've attempted to follow the instructions as outlined, but even with the current app there is no Canvas feature noted under Playback. Is there something else that I should be looking for?
+1 There needs to be an option to turn videos off for Family Accounts.
you nailed it 100%.So sad!
We have also been dealing with this issue, my son is 12, loves music and is part of our family account. He’s now watching all kind of videos which is completely out of our control.
we have been Spotify members for many years but I think we are quitting and moving to other service that takes some actions and provides users what they need. Disappointing.
How do we reach the CEO? Email address?
It looks like we are going to have to cancel our family membership to Spotify for this reason!
I was a paying Spotify user since 2012 but just cancelled our family plan.
This whole discussion for almost 2 years goes nowhere and Spotify seems to have no interest to make their platform family-friendly anymore.
Too bad! I always liked Spotify, but as many parents pointed out: Not being able to control videos is a no-go!
Obviously Spotify is run by pedophiles - I saw we all just troll the **bleep** out of them. **bleep** it- don’t care about us and our kids? We’ll just badmouth you like a plague
I agree 100%, its shocking that nothing is done to create a safe environment for our kids to enjoy music
I have removed spotify from ipads and computers. My kids (11 and 13) are only allowed to use it with a Campfire MP3 player - it cost me $150 but well worth it since it doesn't have visuals. They were constantly getting served up graphic sexualized icons and portals to Explicit youtube content they were not asking for.
Why has Spotify made itself into a portal to pornography? It's really sad.
It doesn’t help. I am talking about the YouTube content that people upload to Spotify. Not Canvas, as has been explained multiple times. There should be a way to stop users accessing YouTube video content uploaded to Spotify. The under 14 point is irrelevant.
This isn't a solution unfortunately. If my kid (15 years old) is in charge of policing whether or not he can watch videos - he'll watch the videos. Thanks, but not a solution.
Also a note to Spotify - 2 of 4 family members have moved to Apple Music, and we're working on transitioning the rest as a result of this. Sounds like others are, too. Massive fail on Spotify's part.
I got a notification that there was a solution? Unless it is Spotify finally changing to be able to turn off ALL videos there is no solution. Shame on Spotify. I want my kids to listen to music not watch. 18+ VIDEOS
