Ban Joe Rogan now!

Profiting from the distribution of deadly misinformation is immoral and shameful! I am a paying subscriber and if you don't remove him I will leave.Profiting from the distribution of deadly misinformation is immoral and shameful! Another paying subscriber leaving Spotify for a platform that supports the art of music and not Faux News. Ps. It was easy to find a way to export my playlists.

What if we remove the report button altogether and replace it with a "hide" button, so you can avoid it unless you search for it directly?

Then everyone wins:

...You can skip podcasts you think are racist.

...I can skip podcasts which extrapolate racism from everything.

All is equal and free. ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't think erasing an opposing view is an answer. If there is an actual truth, then let if come out in discussion, but because someone wanted all other viewpoints removed.

That would be bad for us all in free speech.

I would say that something like this could work but then how would, say, material that could be deemed truly dangerous be handled if things are posted so frequently on here that they could not keep up with it?
This is not an entirely bad concept if it was used on all podcasts, my issue is the unbalanced nature of the way it is right now.

The hide button also runs into the issue of creating the insular bubble that exists in most modern social media. "I don't like it therefore it does not exist." issues then become more prevalent.

I am "anyone else that has run into this issue". And have got exactly the same "escape reply" as soon as it was understood that the subject was about this podcast. This is far disappointing. I thought Spotify was about music - at least it's why I'm in " not opinions. But maybe music has become boring...

I wish we could increase the recognition of this issue as it seems to be a double standard from Spotify to block dissent about something that they are paying for with our money.

Absolutely. But they gave in to the temptation to attract crowds in search of controversy. With our money, as you mention. The only card I can think of is other media, threatening the company's image. As some artists are starting to do.

1st Ammendment protects speakers from government control of what they say. Spotify isn't the government, owns it's "house", admits who it chooses and can eject any speaker it chooses regardless of the 1st Ammendment. Joe Rogan was an example given by Young's management company, his own statement named no-one and only asked that his catalog be removed due to โ€œfake information about vaccinesโ€ on the platform. Only a fool is not aware that Spotify's freely spoken response to Neil Young's request included "We have detailed content policies in place and weโ€™ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to covid-19 since the start of the pandemic." Where is the 1st Ammendment protecting against these content policies? That's right, it says nothing to protect against such policies implemented by a private organization such as Spotify. Ignorance of what the 1st Ammendment actually is should shame so many who use it's name. I'm in the process of switching to YouTube Music to keep my collection intact to my satisfaction. Podcasts and Music are hosted together but Podcasts and Music have their own device apps. Hopefully that's enough separation for those artists with such a care. I'll drop my paid Spotify account before the next payment. I'm happy to keep listening to the music collection I enjoy. Those who want to hear other things are welcome to go where they can find what they seek, obviously Spotify is choosing to prevent certain topics related to covid-19 including vaccines. I hope you don't stay on Spotify and only get the edited version of that story if you want the whole truth with no lies.

About the N. Korea/Chine trope. Comparing state persecution of those who disagree with the ruling party with a platform like Spotify refraining from spreading misinformation by millionaires that might kill the gullible and prolong the pandemic is hyperbole at best. Nobody is being sent to forced labor camps or executed.

well...

It sounds to me like you value the opinions of your own celebrities as well. Or is Rogen not considered a celebrity?

You might want to read my comment again... you'll notice a little "so much" in there that does quite a bit to qualify the statement. Also: I literally don't watch/listen to JR. That said, you *do* understand that this isn't about JR's opinion... it's about his guest's opinions (and my comment was about the old Canadians' opinions about JR which informed by a literal hoax of a letter)

Have you even listened to Joe Roganโ€™s podcasts? If youโ€™re calling him anti-vax, then you clearly have not. Try listening before you go with the herd and call for censorship. Ask yourself, are you too afraid to listen to anything that is different from the mainstream narrative? Podcasts with open and challenging discussions, interesting guests and critical thinking are the future. Cancel culture and authoritarianism belong in the dark ages, not in a free and open society.

What misinformation are you talking about? Have you listened to the podcasts? If not, why not? Are you afraid to hear anything that challenges your alarmist views or anything different from the mainstream narrative? How can you be upset that people are sitting down and sharing their ideas, expertise and experiences in an open setting? We cannot live in a FREE society where authoritarianism, censorship and cancel culture rule the day. Those concepts belong in the dark ages. There is a moral panic surrounding covid. If everyone who has been wrong about the virus should be cancelled, then everyone would be gone. Podcasts with open and challenging discussions are the future. If censorship wins here, then all of the podcasters are under the gun. Not to mention any artists who go their own way (such as Eric Clapton who is under attack for talking about his vaccine injury) or any other โ€œcontroversialโ€ music ( basically anything older than this decade and is not woke enough). I donโ€™t want to live in a sanitized, neutered world where the modern day church ladies- Karens- get to dictate and police our thoughts and ideas because of potential โ€œdangerโ€. Stand up for free speech and free expression, Spotify!

The only problem is that I have to use this service because it is one of the few services I can use that allows me to have shared playlists that I use to engage people I am working with. Having the capacity to leave then becomes tenuous. I would rather fight to fix the iniquity before leaving entirely. Does that make sense? As well I want Spotify to hear why people are leaving before leaving rather than just disappearing and letting them ignore the damage that they do.

Sporify should not engage in politics and allow pro vaxxers to push their violations of human's right to choose

Keep Neil Young and Joni Mitchell...Dump Seth Rogan!

Is that clear enough for you SPOTIFY?

Separate podcasts into a separate app/subscription - this way we get the music we want in the main app, we don't get the UI cluttered by podcasts we won't listen to (it's impossible to get my UI to show music instead of those rows of podcasts that take up half the space), and we won't have to pay for Rogan & others if we don't want to listen to it.

BTW, it's Joe Rogan , not Seth Rogan.

It still comes down to censoring content. No one said that Neil or Joni should leave. They offered an ultimatum that was born through censorship and authoritarianism. They chose to remove your access, not spotify, not Joe Rogan. They did that to you.
Your subscription pays for your access to a variety of content, and should there be content that violates actual laws, then I am sure spotify will take appropriate action.

Thank you for the links. I was pretty sure my whole point was about the authoritarianism and censorship of content and providers. Not what the content is about. I am 100 percent a supporter of letting all information out so we may sort through it and debate everything. Spotify does not have the responsibility to judge and subject content to censorship based on difference of opinion.
