I'm very upset with the new condom adds I'm getting on spotify... I hated the adds in the first place but this and the non stop glitches are the final straw... there are kids on this program... I will be uninstalling spotify as well as telling all my friends about this... don't come back with: " well if you would buy spotify premium you won't have to listen to the adds" because I'm not waisting a single dime on this program.... I'd rather spend a dollar per song on itunes

Hey guys, I'm 22, and I agree with everything that you're saying. Regardless of age, you should have the ability to restrict offensive content. Fortunately, I found a solution and it's totally free 🙂 Here's the response I received from Spotify support when I complained about the offensive ads:

Hi there.
Thanks for getting in touch. I can assure you, honestly, no offence was intended.
Ads with any content that could be considered inappropriate for children will not be displayed to users under 15/16 etc (depending on accepted standards in each market).

I don't know if the spotify support person realized this, but they gave me a hint towards a workaround. I went into my spotify profile and changed my birthyear to 1998 (making me 13 years old), and voila, no more inappropriate ads. To get to your profile go to "Help -> Your profile" in the spotify client, and then click on "Edit your Profile" Change your birth year to 1998, and then you have a few years of non-offensive ads 🙂 Hope this helps 🙂

Hello everyone, we’re sorry to hear that one of our adverts is causing offence to

some of you.

We’ve done our best to limit the exposure of this campaign to certain users,
but we appreciate that it’s not always possible to guarantee that children
won’t overhear your Spotify account. We’re sorry that some of you have had
experiences like this.

This educational campaign passed all of our internal guidelines for advertising.
Next time we review these guidelines, we’ll be sure to include your feedback such
as this. Thanks for letting us know how you feel about ads like this.

Or here's an idea. Why not just give us an option in our profile to limit explicit or potentially offensive advertising, regardless of our age? It's seriously not that hard to code something like that.

Thanks for posting but I think you are missing the point. There are a lot of us who don't want to hear these type of ads REGARDLESS as to whether children are around or not. I don't mind ads at all. But this add as well as adds that promote songs that use offensive language are really offensive to some people including myself.

I've been listening to spotify again for about a week or 2 and have had no ad problems at all... I'm the one who started this post and just wanted to say Thank you to all those who spoke out against this ad and thank you spotify for listening to us and taking into consideration our opinions!

I love spotify and stuff, but I had a condom comecial on my list, this is cousing me problems at work, school, and home. I might have to just abandon spotify altoghther if it continues. please have a safe ad option or something...Smiley Frustrated

So these ads have stopped?  I really do not want to load up spotify if there is a good chance I am going to hear these things blaring about sex in the background.

Since I have Spotify on facebook I cannot do that work around by changing my age without changing my facebook account age 😞

I've been listening to Spotify for a couple of hours now and have heard the condom ad several times.  It's definitely not gone.  I agree that Spotify can relatively easily add a filter option in the account that allows a user to determine what kind of ads they want to receive, or at the very least opt out of more explicit ads.  Please consider this, Spotify, if you're not willing to remove offensive ads of this sort.

I have not heard the condom add in question, but what makes such a an add upsetting?

hearing that some of you are still getting this ad makes me wonder if spotify simply tampered with my account to where I don't get it...

Let me get this straight ... the only way to prevent NSFW ads is to change my age on Facebook?  What if I don't want to do that?  Please tell me there's another fix.  I just heard the skeezy condom ad not 5 minutes ago, so these ads haven't been pulled from play.

Upset?  That's an understatement.  Get these completely inappropriate ads off my Spotify.  Facebook has bad ads too, though, since I'm aloud to be rid of them whenever I find them distasteful, (usually because I consider them pornographic), I let them be and do not complain.  Here, though?  Ads make sense.  It's a free service Spotify is providing, but don't you dare try to sell sex to me.

Sincerely,

Indignant

ps-You're right about one thing that today's society likes to believe doesn't exist: men and women are indeed different.

Yes, do that, as well as the internet and go out there and commence the reproduction of humanity (no condom needed)!

On a related note, I just had an ad play for a rapper named 2 Chainz.  The song playing in the background had disgusting amounts of nasty language in it.

I've been plenty annoyed lately by the type of music ads play while I'm listening to Spotify, but that's my problem and the service is free, after all.  But when that ad is laced with foul language and derogatory sexual terms I need to say something about it.

I was listening to Spotify today at home and in the middle of listening to a song by artist "Delirious?" an advertisement came up that was promoting condoms. It went something like "When having sex, women like to have it slow" or something inappropriate like that. I realize that this may not be so bad for some people, but seriously? Of all things, I was listening to a Christian artist's music when this ad came up. Had it been while I was with other church people or maybe younger kids, this would have been a very, very awkward moment. Can you please take this ad down? I'm all for advertisements and stuff as you can generate revenue to pay the artists, but this ad doesn't belong on any level in an environment like this.

Mayerkim - I've just moved your post over here, as there's already a thread regarding this.

Who's your Spotify Star?

Glad its fixed now.

Not fixed at all. I was letting my kid listen to praise and worship music on my Spotify account last night and this commercial about sex and "turn her on" is blaring when my husband comes home. He's a pastor. LMBO. He is like, what in the world is going on? LOL  Funny and really not funny, yk? C'mon Spotify. Make an "clean" ad option. My 8 year old doesn't need to learn about slow sex for turning a woman on yet, please, thank you! Also, don't need scary commercials advertizing horror movies, etc. The cost of therapy for anxiety is more than going back to buying everything on iTunes.

In the United States people, to my understanding, cannot legally have sex until 18 years of age.  What use is this ad to 15/16 year olds other than promoting something illegal?

I am 18, but I object to this kind of ad for anybody who does not opt-in for "adult"-only advertising.
