Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs

We have been using those SDKs since they became available.

Our particular app (Amazing Slow Downer) lets the user play music more slowly, since a couple of years ago also songs from Spotify. The "ios-streaming-sdk" is a beautifully designed framework that lets an audio developer do practically everything needed.
In our case it makes it possible to access the raw audio samples and this way process the sound and then playback the processed audio using our regular audio playback engine. With your new SDK this is not possible. It might be that the "ios-streaming-sdk" is more difficult to use for an average developer but that also makes it more powerful.

We have many users that uses Spotify. Many users switch from other streaming services such as "Apple Music", Tidal, Amazon Music etc to Spotify just to be able to slow down streaming music in real time.

We believe our app gives Spotify many many new subscribers, so many that it would actually pay off for Spotify to maintain the "ios-streaming-sdk".

We only use "playlist" functions and after fixing a couple of bugs in the "metadata framework" available on github, everything works 100%. Although there are certainly some bugs in the “ios-streaming-sdk”, they are very few and don’t affect our app.

We also have an Android version of our app that uses your Android streaming SDK and it also works very good.

We believe Spotify will loose thousands of users, so many that the minimal cost Spotify need to spend on maintenance will pay off manifold.

Since our app also supports playback and slowing down of streaming Apple Music, many of our users will probably switch from subscribing to Spotify to subscribing to Apple Music.

You write:

"After September 1st, important functionality in the streaming SDKs will stop working."
Exactly what does that mean? What part of the SDK will continue to work?

Please continue supporting iOS/Android streaming SDKs!

I'm a teacher in singing and violin playing and Amazing Slowdowner together with Spotify is an essential part of my teaching. Hopefully You'll reconsider or make some other solution for our needs.

Please, please, please keep ASD as a third party app. As a musician, I use this every day – it’s unique to have a third party app work so well with a content provider. If it aint broke, why fix it? This was one of the reasons I went with Spotify to begin with and why I’ve stayed with Spotify. If they haven’t noticed, with inflation and economic woes we are all going through, people are dropping their subscription services left and right. Seems incomprehensible that spotify would be doing something to drive people away – but alas. For every comment here, you can guess there are 10 more upset individuals who might go elsewhere. Spotify – please reconsider.

I am a spotify customer and would like it to continue to use it with the amazing slow down or app

I really really love using amazing slow downer with all the content possible of Spotify (that I would be disappointed to let for another mean).

This to play guitar, vocals, all that pleasures.

I can’t believe it could stop.

Sorry, this is probably a nightmare!

Be wise and find a solution!

Hello,

My name is William Earley and I am the Operations / Music Director for the School of Rock in Fairfield CT. Our School uses Spotify to create playlists for our 300 students every semester. All of our teachers use the Amazing Slow Downer for teaching/transcription, and for their personal work. This app is fundamental for the modern musician. If Spotify discontinues the use of the app we will pull our 20+ teachers off of Spotify and transition to Apple Music for the start of the next semester in a few weeks. All of our customer base will likely follow suit as they use our playlists for practice/rehearsals. I will also make a recommendation to School of Rock corporate to have our 400 schools follow suite.

To be clear: This app is more important to musicians than which streaming service we use.

Cheers,

William Earley

I’m switching to Apple Music if Spotify discontinues allowing Amazing slow downer to be compatible.

They are forcing me to stop using Spotify.I need to use amazing slowdowner with a streaming source…

I'm professional musician and use Slow Downer with Spotify  a lot for my students and myself for practising purposes.

Please continue supporting this feature. Otherwise I will need to think about other ways, changing to Apple Music for example.

Thank you, Rolf! I am one of these Spotify subscribers who will switch to Apple Music if Spotify stops supporting this integration. ASD is an invaluable tool for me as a professional musician, and many of my colleagues feel similarly. The loss of this integration will definitely impact my work, and I’m certain I will switch to a service that meets those needs.

Please reconsider this…I don’t want to change to Apple Music…I need it to use it with ASD for studying music

This is very disappointing.  As a musician I use the pitch and speed change features to learn new songs quickly.  This is the main reason I uses Spotify and not Apple Music.  Without these features I don’t see why I would carry on using Spotify….  There are tools available to move playlists between streaming services…. So Spotify, don’t think I am locked into your service…. I am not.

I am an Android user. Does anyone know what streaming service we may use with ASD? I am switching as soon as possible if this goes through. Thanks.

Amazing Slow Downer is the reason I subscribe to Spotify. If I lose this integration, I will certainly cancel my Spotify subscription.

Please reconsider…I don’t want to switch to Apple Music!!! I need to use ASD for my practice!!!

Add me to the list of disgruntled Spotify users for this reason.  If they restrict apps like the Amazing Slow Downer from using streaming music, I will have to go elsewhere, probably Apple Music. This will be a bit of a pain though as I have so much already configured through Spotify.  I am really hoping you will listen to your users and continue to allow the ASD and similar products to maintain this functionality.

I am writing to express my disappointment that you are changing your policy that allows users of services such as Amazing Slow Downer to slow down songs for learning purposes. That was my purpose in subscribing to Spotify. I will have no need to subscribe to Spotify if the change in policy is carried out. Please reconsider your plan.

I agree.

I'm a pianist who's been using Amazing slow downer for years now. If streaming SDK in spotify is no longer available, I may genuinely switch to apple music, which sucks because I REALLY like spotify's interface, curated playlists, and I already have pre-made playlists, downloaded content, friends on spotify all of which took hours to cultivate. If this feature is removed, however, I will have to switch to apple music; being able to slow down music the way this app does is such an essential feature to me. PLEASE DONT REMOVE THIS FEATURE

The decision to eliminate Spotify’s compatibility with Amazing Slow Downer means that millions of musicians around the world that rely on asd tools to dissect and understand  the great musical content that Spotify provides will be left without options. This is not dissimilar to the elimination of music programs in schools across the country since educators rely on Spotify playlists and ASD‘s tool kit to help their students learn and grow.   Please reconsider this decision
