Basic Individual plan vs any premium plan

Solved!

Basic Individual plan vs any premium plan

What are the actual differences between the Basic Individual plan and the premium ones?

Looks like it might be the access to the audiobooks, but spotify doesn't make it clear.

Do you get all the same perks for basic individual and premium individual:  ad free, downloads, any order, high audio, organize list. Want to be VERY. clear on this. I don’t need audio books, but want to maintain all of the above that premium individual offers. Spotify doesn’t explain. Other members say basic is a downgrade. Please clarify.

Hi, @rwk

Welcome to the Spotify Community, and thanks for reaching out to us!

Actually, as I said before, the only difference between the standard Premium plan and the Basic Premium plan is how you get access to audiobooks.

If you opt for the Basic Premium plan, you'll still have access to all Premium features, including:

  • Offline Listening;
  • No-ads experience when listening to music
  • High-quality audio.

I hope this makes everything more clear! 🙂

If you have further questions or if you need anything else, let me know! I'd love to help!

Yes! If you are on the Basic Premium plan you can download content to listen to them offline. Don't worry about it. 🙂

How can I get a plan that doesn't have audiobooks since I don't want them?

How do we sign up for Basic Individual? It's not on any of the plan pages.

The Basic Premium plan is only available for existing Premium customers based in the US, the UK and Australia.

You can have access to the Basic Premium plan by managing your current Premium subscription here

Seems like something regarding this "Basic Duo" subscription option should be mentioned somewhere in the legal Terms of Service, but I can't even find the word "Basic" anywhere in the text...

Hi,

If I understand your explanation correctly, no one is currently able to switch to the Basic plan? Could you please tell me if there was a possibility to switch to the Basic plan for Slovenian subscribers? Currently, I have Premium Family, but we would like to switch to Basic. There doesn't seem to be much information online regarding Basic plans in my country so I am slightly confused.

Thank you for any help.

I opened up a chat about this as I agree with you.

Thanks for the wait. The only difference between both plans is the access to audiobooks. Unlike Premium, these Basic plans don't include audiobook listening time. But you can get audiobooks as one time purchases separately.

So the fact that on the plans page the premium family plan specifically states this "Up to 6 Premium or Kids accounts" and the basic family states "Up to 6 Basic accounts", when it comes down to it, there is no difference? my account now has download offline, smart shuffle, custom playlists, etc.. and if I switch to basic family, I will have all that still?

Yes, all the above said download offline, smart shuffle, custom playlists, will be remains the same.

Why does it differentiate in the term of "Basic account" and "Premium Account" as the audiobook is only available to the main account for premium family. I just want to make sure I don't lose anything that I have access to now if I were to switch

You at 11:09 AM, Oct 1

No need to worry about that. Only you'll lose audiobooks access. Please be rest assured all the download offline, smart shuffle, custom playlists will remains the same.

Alright, I would recommend the terms be changed then, just my opinion.

thank you very much

We really appreciate your feedback on this. I'll definitely forward this to my higher team.

Is the only difference the 15hrs or audiobook access?

Hey @Madikis,

Thanks for reaching out.

Yeah, that's right. The Basic plans don't have access to Audiobooks that are included in Premium 🙂

I hope this clears things up.

Hey Maxim. Thanks for the quick response. That clarifies things. I'm facing another price increase and want to minimize the impact. It's an annoying reality that seems to be happening more frequently from all sides these days.

Hey @Madikis,

Yeah, I can totally understand that. I'm glad I was able to clear things up 🙂

Have a great rest of your day.

From Spotify's support page, they also say that Basic Premium is

"A streaming-only option with all of the benefits of Premium Individual but without music downloads. "

This seems to be a recent change. Can you or someone confirm that switching to Basic makes it online online, without offline listening?

Hey @Raccoon2,

This is the first time I've heard about this limitation. I'll get this looked into and will get back to you as soon as I hear back.

Hey again, @Raccoon2,

I can confirm that Spotify Basic does include offline listening in most regions, with the exception of South Korea. Users there don’t have access to offline listening with the Basic plan, which might have caused some confusion if you came across a page specific to that region.

If you’re not in South Korea, you’ll definitely still have the ability to download music with the Basic plan.

UK user here.   I switched my family plan "down" to basic (wasn't using audio books in any case) -- and I can confirm I am being charged 17.99 total.   I didn't spot any + VAT wording myself, but it sounds like it's another case of crappy updates/attention to detail on the plan pages, which clearly aren't making much sense on this new plan option.   I can also confirm I don't get ads.

Interestingly I don't seem to have access to the "mini player" in the spotify windows app (which on one page does say "available in premium accounts") but since I don't recall if I had that before, and it DOES show up when using the "in browser" spotify UI, I reckon that's another oversight that's unlikely to be intended.... and i wouldn't pay an extra £2 / month just to be able to go mini player anyway!

Thanks for the info. Does basic family allow offline downloading? Some say offline downloading is only available for premium plans.

Is there any adds on the basic plan?
