My Question or Issue:
When I click on the plus button to adjust what playlist(s) a song is saved in, I am able to complete my changes but very frequently the changes are not saved or applied to the song. This is a newer issue, now that there is no "save changes" button to click on. I have many playlists categorized by time & genre, so many of my songs go in more than one playlist, which has suddenly become an issue with this update. In addition, when I am adding a song to other playlists, I am unable to remove the song from a playlist at the same time when I used to be able to do all of this with one step. Now the only way to remove a song is to use specifically the "remove from this playlist" button.

Hey folks,
We appreciate your feedback on this!
We're investigating the behavior of playlists inside folders not showing up under the "Saved in" section of the "Add to playlist" menu in this thread, check it out.
Cheers 🤘
Once again, the same issue is back. I have to save a song in a playlist one by one at a time because if I choose many the changes doesn't get saved.
Hey @Astral1122,
Thanks for your reply.
We’ve tested this on our end but weren’t able to reproduce the issue. Could you please send us a short video showing the exact steps you’re taking? Also, let us know which device and operating system you’re using, and approximately how many playlists you’re trying to save the track to before the issue occurs. This will help us investigate further.
Cheers,
Thanks, my phone is a Motorola with Android 11. The app is updated, but lately it's been having problems with background playback. The problem with saving songs occurs even when I only want to add the song even to just two playlists, and I have to do it again one by one, but it doesn't happen every time, sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't, so I tried to make a video but of course those times worked fine lol, the issue stills happen when I'm not recording.
Hey there @Astral1122,
Thanks for getting back to us.
You mentioned that the app is currently up to date on your phone, but we recommend running a clean reinstall to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. Also, it's worth checking if there's any pending update for the OS of your phone.
Regarding the issues with background playback, we suggest that you check the battery and background restrictions by heading to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Battery. There, make sure to allow background activity and remove any battery restrictions if available.
Lastly, could you check if the same happens with a different networks? If you've been using Wi-Fi, now you can try with mobile data.
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Okay, I did the clean reinstall and so far so good...
Even the other issues seem gone. Thank you
Hey @Astral1122,
Thank you for keeping in contact.
We're glad to know that everything is working fine now. We appreciate the time you took following the process and sharing your resolution.
In case you need anything else, remember that we're just a post away.
Cheers!
I am still having this same issue myself. I've had it since I reported it months ago.
I click "Add to playlist" on a song, the list appears and I select the playlists. I click the back button or slide down the list of playlists. I click "Add to playlist" again to confirm and the song was added to either none of the playlists or some of the playlists, so I have to go through the process again and again until the song is added to all the play lists I want. Sometimes I have to do the "add to playlist" process more than 10 times until it finally works.
A paid app is not supposed to have these issues. Please provide a permanent solution. I'm not going to clean reinstall again. I've done that several times and I have albums and podcasts downloaded that I don't want to re-download again. The previous "Save" button used to work great for adding songs to several playlists and y'all removed that button for no reason.
The app is up to date. It's always up to date. I have an Android Samsung Galaxy A22.
Sadly, my phone does not have video screen recording. I wish it did so I could show you this insanity.
And if one of you is gonna tell me that "We’ve tested this on our end but weren’t able to reproduce the issue," then you should show me the video of you adding one song to about 10 playlists in different folders and having it work in one try.
Hey again @wwwathlete,
Sorry to see you're still experiencing this issue.
We did try to reproduce this on an Android device and everything did work as intended. No way to make a recording of this without third party apps though, so we understand where you're coming from.
But, having said this - we're going to continue digging into this until we find the culprit here 🙂
Could you let us know if this happens only to playlists where there is anything specific (e.g. very old playlists; playlists that have a lot of songs; etc.)? On our end we can successfully select any playlist in or out of a folder and we can select multiple playlists as well.
I'd also check if there aren't any third party apps connected to Spotify which may be interfering with how the app functions. You can take a screenshot of what you have and try removing them one by one to see if anything would make a difference. You can then re-add any apps that are not related to this issue.
Keep us posted on how things go! We'll be on the lookout.
I have the latest version of Spotify. I am still having issues with some or all of my playlist changes not being updated after I press save. Currently it is updating all except the last two songs. It is really annoying to have to edit the same information over and over because the save button doesn't actually work properly.
Hey @AliceRabbit42,
Thanks for your reply.
If the issues are resolved after a clean reinstall but then reappear, it could indicate that a built‑in battery or memory optimization feature on your device is interfering with Spotify. Would you mind checking if such settings are enabled on your device and adding Spotify as an exception? They're usually accessible from Settings - Apps - Spotify - Battery/Memory.
@wwwathlete, thank you for sharing the steps to reproduce this. I’m still unable to replicate the behavior on my Samsung device (as shown in this video), so feel free to give the suggestion above a try as well and let us know how it goes.
Cheers,
This worked for me, thank you!!! For anyone else on Android, go to Settings -> Apps -> Spotify -> App battery usage -> Allow background usage (click the text, not the check mark) -> Unrestricted
@Vasil Hello, the issue occurs with any play list. Older or newer playlists. Yes, a lot of my playlists are old with lots of songs, which should not affect adding songs to any playlist at all.
I had several third party connections, which I deleted at your suggestion and I left just these 6 because I use those apps (shazam, lastfm, bandisintown). The playlist issue still persists.
@MihailY Thank you for the suggestion. I tried changing the Battery app usage to Unrestricted, I deleted the cache, restarted the phone.
When I opened Spotify again it was slow as ever. I tried playing a song, click on the three-dots, the menu took 10-20 seconds to load. After the menu finally loaded, I click "Add to playlist", which takes an additional 5 seconds loading. Now that the list of playlists has loaded, I scrolled down and click on a Folder, I scrolled down and selected a Playlist, clicked the Back button which took me to the main list of playlists, click Back again to save the changes. I click "Add to playlist" again and the song wasn't added to playlist I selected. Yes, I selected an old playlist with lots of songs, from an old folder. This should not be an issue. After going through the Add to playlist process two more times, the song was finally added to the desired playlist.
Thank you for sharing that video, but using a test account with test playlists and test folders (on what is probably a test device) does not match the experience of your users who have been loyal the app for over a decade and have accumulated a lot of content and data which we expect to access easily and with no delays (see how YouTube works? That's how Spotify should work).
As previously stated, this really wasn't an issue when we had the "Save" button.
Hey @wwwathlete,
Appreciate your detailed response.
From what you’ve described, it does sound like this may be related to performance limitations when working with accounts that have a large amount of saved content. This is something our relevant teams are aware of and actively working on improving, as optimizing performance for heavier libraries is an ongoing focus.
That said, since these improvements are part of a continuous process, we don’t have a specific ETA to share right now, but your feedback on the matter is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
The only thing that worked for me was making a clean reinstall
Thanks for your response and I'm glad "relevant teams are aware of and actively working on improving, as optimizing performance for heavier libraries is an ongoing focus." It's been really disappointing that the app would be behave this way when it's to be expected that millions of people who have Premium for over a decade would have large libraries and the app should be able to handle that without any glitches.
Not even a clean reinstall worked for me.
I've also been thinking of also doing a factory reset on my phone, but not sure if or when I'll do that. If I go through with it, I'll let y'all know how it goes.
Nevermind, this issue is acting up again. And yes, I have a large library.
One thing to note: Once I'm in the "Save in" menu, if I tap to add a song to a playlist and wait a few seconds BEFORE I close the "Save in" UI, the song is usually successfully added to the playlist. It's inconvenient, but it works.
I have also been experiencing the same issue for several months now. I have huge playlists (with over 4000 songs) so it might be because of that (which would be in line with what I've read here so far). What I noticed is that if you wait 3 seconds after clicking on the add songs button every time they will actually register. Nevertheless, Spotify really needs to fix this issue, it's been like this for months and this is just unacceptable.

My Question or Issue:
I keep having difficulties to add songs to a playlist. I have to try 4-5 times before it actually adds to the playlist. I have emptied the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, checked if I had the lastest update, nothing seems to fix the issue. Also, the app lag alot, for example when trying to switch from a feature to another. Been like this for a week at least.
