My Question or Issue
Hello,
I am unable to play explicit content. I have checked the option in the settings and verified my age.
If I search for an explicit song and try to play it, nothing happens. I don't get an error message either.
I've cleared the data and reinstalled the app. I also used the Mac App and tried the Web Player but similar issues persist. On the web player, the explicit results are hidden, even though the option is enabled there as well.
Solved! Go to Solution.
For some reason both artists I tried this with were blocked on my phone and this made me unable to play the song anywhere. Error Messages would have been really helpful figuring that out.
Hey @JasperNygaard,
Welcome to the Community and thanks for sharing what you've tried so far.
Since the explicit content is not greyed out for you, it's possible to press and you don't see any error messages, it could be worth toggling off and on the explicit filter a few times in the app's settings for a refresh. In order to resync your account and Spotify you can even log out > back in two times in a row on the devices. Let us know if these make a difference for you.
Note: This setting is not available on the Web Player 🙂
Something worth mentioning is that in case you're a member of a Premium Family plan, the owner is the person that allows or blocks anything with an explicit tag for other members of the plan.

I cant unblock stuff bc I'm on a school chromebook and the option to undo the explicit content blocker thingy isn't even there... 😥
Hey @EmmaIzCool149,
Thanks for posting on the forum!
As mentioned in @Ivelina's post, this option is not accessible via the web player, but it can be accessed via the mobile/ desktop apps 🙂 The Android app can normally be installed on a Chromebook, depending on your permissions to perform installations.
If installing the app on the Chromebook is not an option for you, you can do as @JasperNygaard has done, namely installing the app on a different device in order to enable or disable the Explicit content setting.
We're here for you in case any questions arise.
None of these solutions work in the browser. How do you toggle this setting if you don't have the app?
