How to remove and stop past podcasts from being recommended

How to remove and stop past podcasts from being recommended

Last year I was searching for some podcasts of specific interest but after giving a couple shows a try and not liking what I found I gave up and moved on. Now both of these podcasts are not only looming in my "Your Shows" despite having never followed them in the first place I am also getting notifications when new episodes are posted. I'm not following either, I never clicked like, and I'm sick of seeing them every time I open the app I pay for. How do you remove or block these shows so I never have to see them again?

SPOTIFY HAS COMPLETELY RUINED MY EXPERIENCE AS A "PREMIUM" USER WITH FORCED PODCASTS WITH THEMES I DON'T LIKE (i.e. true crime) WHILE REFUSING TO SHOW THE ONES I DO LISTEN TO WHEN FILTERING TO PODCASTS, HOW RIDICULOUS!!!! CAN'T YOU DEVS AT LEAST GIVE US A "NOT INTERESTED" BUTTON EXCLUSIVELY FOR PREMIUM USERS LIKE ME AND MANY OF US HERE? WHAT A JOKE!

Please let users remove unwanted podcast recommendations at will. Some shxtty podcasts just sticked on my home page forever after playing for 5 min literally.

What if a teenager accidentally plays a podcast for adults only? So you just let it sits there ruining their mind. What the **bleep** are you thinking? What's the difficulty of enabling this feature?

I don’t have a “podcasts” section in my iPhone Spotify settings and when I go onto the podcast show page the three dots does not have any options to hide/remove/not interested. The only options are to share or mark as favorite. Please tell me how to get rid of podcast recs. I’m crying. Please.

The options you describe do not exist.

Spotify is a business interested in revenue and not in satisfying customers. Sorry to state the obvious.

Adding to the void. I've been having the same issue as everyone else here describes. None of the solutions provided fix the issue (again as many others have mentioned already). We need a real fix already, it's been driving me nuts for too long now and is something I consider to be a rather large failing with a few simple fixes. We just need those fixes to be available.

I get Apple Music for free and have chosen to pay for Spotify instead for well over a decade now. Stuff like this is making me rethink my decision. I'll give it a little while longer to see if we get a solve but I'm not one to keep spending money on a product with such basic functionality issues.

The buttons we're being told exist maybe did at some point but they don't exist now so that's no help. The suggestion to mark all episodes as played is one I thought of a few weeks ago but is only a long term solution if the podcast is old. Any podcast still releasing episodes will continue to be an issue unless you manually mark each new episode as played as they drop daily or weekly. That's hardly a solution. Please find a real fix soon, not an outdated or bandaid one.

Hey Yordan,

It appears the "not interested" option depicted is only available on the podcast clips that you are meant to flick through which now show up at the bottom of the home page on the mobile app. I'm interested in removing this suggestion bar or the podcasts in it that is currently on my desktop home screen:

I don't listen to any WSJ podcasts, but despite that I have had this suggestion bar with the same five podcasts at the top of my home page for a month now at least. The tripple-dot menu in any of these episodes does not contain the "not interested" option as depicted below.

Are you aware of any way that I can remove suggestions like these that I have no interest in listening to?

Thanks,

It is June 2024, and a Spotify advisor directed me to this page in order to help me with the same problem, but apparently this hasn't been a viable solution for almost a year. What in the world is going on at Spotify?!?!

Why the **bleep** this hasn't been solved yet? A lot of people having the same issue and Spotify doesn't solve it and its algorithm is the worst. I don't want even see Jordan Peterson, LGBT-ABCD issues or Joe Rogan. Please let US control the content since you are doing a very poor job.

I was asked to listen to some podcasts that I found to be offensive, and ever since listening to that podcast, Spotify continues to recommend me new episodes from that podcast even though I do not follow them. I have "marked as unplayed" on the app to the eposides. I do not want to see new episodes from this podcast at all being recommended to me, but there doesn't seem to be a way on the Spotify app to remove that content completely. Am I missing something? Is there a way to really completely do not recommend any episodes from a specific podcast?

The moral of the story is that you should not touch any podcast in the Spotify app EVER - because as soon as you do, you will be forever recommended episodes with NO WAY to remove them. I made the mistake of listening to a couple of "alternative" podcasts and now my home page is littered with trash. None of the "top answers" in this thread work and there appears to be no way to stop a podcast from being recommended. I even tried reporting podcasts with the "I don't like this content" option, but they still remain there being recommended to me!

they're in the business of making money, not in the business of satisfying the little people that make them their money.  suggesting podcasts i am 100% sure must be part of their strategy. also, i think podcast owners pay to have them show up as well as there are complicated algorithms.  if everyone would be able to turn off the recommendations, i bet you they'd be making many millions less each quarter.  it will not change.

I think Qobuz is ok, that being said, it’s looking better now that Tidal is adopting MQA which is a proprietary and dead format. Tried Apple too, of all these , you are probably getting the best experience/sound with Qobuz. Good luck fellow netizen.

I have this exact problem, as I have discovered my tween listened to some erotic adult short stories a couple of weeks ago that are not marked with an E so even with explicit content turned off, he could still access them! I discovered this because a new episode came up in his recommendations and I saw it on his screen. So I wanted to block it from coming up for him again but there is literally no way to do this, and I discovered that many other adult-content podcasts are not marked E either. To find out how much damage had been done, and not wanting to feed his algorithm any further, I listened through it on my own account and now it's coming up in my home page too! This is just disgusting, it's unsafe for young people and it's absolutely infuriating that there's no way to block or remove this content for my son or myself.

This is unacceptable. I have an account for more than 10 years now and this is the first time I'm considering cancelling. I discovered a very small German podcast and played an episode out of curiousity. The podcast is about a streamer who has been bullied for years. It's a pretty famous case in Germany. Within the podcast the host does nothing but threaten, offend and bully in the most hateful and derogative way. If I'd cite just one of the many slurs id get banned immediately. I've reported the episode and the whole podcast. Not only did nothing happen but the podcast is constantly displayed on the top of my home tab and on the "new episodes" widget. I've tried everything but I refuse to mark it as listened. Not only don't you remove hateful and potentially illicit content, you promote it to me!

None of the solutions apply or help so I'm unsure why they are being suggested in the first place.

There's no "not interested" option.

I STILL GET NEW EPISODES recommended FROM PODCASTS even when I am :

  Not following the podcast

Haven't seen any new episodes nor visited the podcast for months

Marked all episodes as " finished " or "not started"

Rated them low

Spotify still trolls me because I've had the same podcasts I've been trying to ignore appearing  in "my shows" and "jump back in"!! !

UPDATE - its September and  nothing has Bl**dy **bleep**ing changed.. It's safe to say by complaining we're beating a dead horse here 😂 It's very hard to believe that they are refusing to implement such simple functions even for premium customer so why bother going premium?

This is nonsense.  I like history podcasts.  Now every day the app is recommending a Hitler podcast and I have to see his face all the time.  It's offensive.  What if someone sees my app open?  Who ever heard of an app that won't let you drop content you don't want.  What is wrong with the people making decisions.

As paying member since spotify launched why can I not remove all podcast recommendations in anyway. Before going to the home page I'd find some interesting music suggestions, now it is wall to wall podcast. Most of which I have no interest in at all.

Spotify keep making their app worse and worse. They really need to give users an option.
I don't and will never use it for podcasts, only music.
