New Your Library view (iOS & Android)

Spotify is introducing a new version of the Your Library view to mobile users of the iOS and Android apps. When you open up the Spotify mobile app you will see this new view. 📱

Check out this Spotify news article for more information:

Listeners Can Explore Their Spotify Collections Faster and Easier With a New ‘Your Library’

This thread is your go-to destination for getting an overview of what's new, asking questions, getting help for issues you might have, as well as to share your feedback on this new version of Your Library. Also, do you have any tips for other users on how you are using the new Your Library? We'd love to hear them.

What's new?

  • See your entire collection in one simple list
  • Dynamic filters and better sort options for your collection
  • Pinned library items to find your favorites, faster
  • More control at your fingertips with a new grid view
  • Universal search allows you to search through your entire collection and see your recent searches
  • Faster settings navigation allows you to tap on your profile picture to get to settings faster
  • Get to your downloads, faster

Here is a walkthrough of what's new:

One simple list:

Your Library is now one simple list. At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see and tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list. To create a new playlist, tap on the + (plus) symbol at the top right corner.

Dynamic filter options:

At the top, tap on the filters to filter the content you want to see. Tap on the X and then chose another filter to see another type of content. Having no filter selected will show all types of content in the list.

  • Playlists
  • Artists
  • Albums
  • Podcasts & Shows
  • Downloaded

Sort options:

At the top, tap on the sort options to change the sort order of the list.

  • Recents
  • Recently added
  • Alphabetical
  • Creator

And in the "Playlists" filter view, you'll have this option to see your playlists in your own order like in the desktop app and web player:

  • Custom order

📌 Pinned library items:

If you tap and hold on the screen on any item in the Your Library list or swipe right on it, an option will show up allowing you to pin it and it will stay at the top of the Your Library list.

You can pin anything in Your Library such as playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts. The limit is 4 pinned items. You can unpin "New Episodes" to free up a pin and still get to that using the "Podcasts & Shows" filter or by searching for it. Same with "Liked Songs", you can unpin it and still get back to it at the top of the "Playlists" filter when it is sorted by "Custom order" or by searching for it. You can also pin the "Your Episodes" list to the main library view in addition to the "New Episodes" list if you also want to be able to access "Your Episodes" from the main library view without having to filter to "Podcasts & Shows" first.

To pin more playlists when you run out of the 4 item pins, you can make a playlist folder in the desktop app or web player and then move multiple playlists inside it and then pin the folder in the mobile app. Then tap on the folder at the top and there you go, easier access to all the playlists in that folder and that can be your 4th pin. However, you can't pin a specific playlist if it is in a folder, so you will need to pin the folder instead. Tip: In the desktop app or web player you can also move playlist folders inside of another playlist folder. That means you can pin a playlist folder that contains a whole bunch of other playlist folders if you want to get super organized.

To easily find the item you want to pin, the best way is to use the universal search. At the top of Your Library, tap on the search icon and search for the item you want to pin. The universal search searches your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, podcasts and also shows you your recent searches.

Grid view:

Are you a visual person? You're in control. With the new grid view you can view Your Library with bigger artwork if that's your jam. This is great for when you're on the go or in the car so you can find what you're looking for faster. To switch to the grid view, tap on the squares icon to the right. Tap on it again to go back to the list view.

Universal search:

The new universal search can be accessed by tapping the search icon at the top right corner. The new search allows you to quickly search through your entire library for playlists, playlist folders, artists, albums, and podcasts without having to go to a specific content section.

Recent searches:

The new universal search also shows you your most recent Your Library searches so you can quickly get back to what you previously searched for.

Faster settings navigation:

Tap on your profile picture in the top left corner to get to settings faster.

Downloads: (Requires Premium)

When you are in offline mode you'll see your downloaded content faster upon app launch in the home tab.

How the new version of Your Library (iOS & Android) evolved over time during testing:

When the new version of Your Library on mobile was being tested with users, a few of the main points of feedback were the following:

  • Add a custom sort option for the playlists filter like in the old library view
  • Add a way to see a feed of new podcast episodes like in the old library view

These two options were added during the testing phase. Other points of feedback were also made by users during the test, but Spotify is always looking to improve the app so hopefully the new library experience will improve over time.

I personally like being able to see my playlists in the same custom sort order I have them arranged in the desktop app, so I was glad to see that issue was addressed. A bonus feature was also added which is the ability to pin a few of your favorite items to the top of Your Library. I really like being able to have my favorites one tap away at the top of my library. A few other new features that I like are being able to quickly search through my entire library, being able to see my library in a new grid view, and being able to get to settings right from the library view.

Feedback:

Now that the new version of Your Library on mobile is rolling out to all users, what do you think? You can leave your feedback as a reply in this thread. If your feedback is suggesting certain changes, it is best to also post each individual idea in the Community Idea Exchange where users can vote and comment on your ideas and it'll be easier to track each idea. You can read more about how your feedback reaches Spotify here.

This new update is seriously disappointing. It’s ruined my Library system. Mixing everything there is so inconvenient and very messed up. It requires a lot more work now just to mark or spot my favourite playlists in the ‘Library’. Considering joining other music app too if this is not changed.

If its not broke dont fix it, yall killed it and tried to revive it. The filter sorting on mobile makes me have to force close the app because filters lock up and i get black screen where i should have playlist.

Besides its broken mechanics, the orevious version was way better; i had a tab for my liked artist, albums and playlist. I could easily find every by swiping left or right. Now i gotta filter then sort, but now artist take you to their page and not my saved list.

Ehy do i have to jump through 6 hoops for something that was a click away, there is no way you can call this more mainstream and easier its the complete opposite.

Thank for an answer but did not help. i Just copy the question from another user.

The issue is I cannot find my downloaded episodes for podcasts I do not follow. The downloads only show podcasts I follow. My problem is

1. I have episodes I downloaded before "Your Episodes" existed

2. I do not follow those podcasts.

So now they're taking up space on my phone, but I have no idea how to find the

@Ivan

I just got the newest spotify app update and I have to say that I LOATHE the way the my library page has been reorganized. having the playlists, artists, albums and podcasts is separate tags made a lot of sense, was super intuitive, and easy to browse through depending on what I felt like listening to. This new strategy of dumping it all on one page for me to filter through myself is annoying and frustrating. Why would I ever want to look at all of them at the same time? It’s now ten times harder to find what I want to listen to and since I have so much content saved my library page is now bloated and massive. The filtering with tags is a massive downgrade, especially since there’s technically two filter formats now, the bubbles on top and the drop down list for how they’re listed, and I would love to see them bring back the previous format. It just made so much more sense and improved the user experience so much.

Totaly agree 🤬

error : just noticed that after this update my "discover weekly' is not synced to my mobile device. i 've hidden some tracks i don't like, in mobile app they still appear as available ,although i can' click to start them

I do not like the new look at all. It looks cluttered and redundant. My library is for things I selected to be there. I don’t need to be shown everything that is on the Home Screen too.

[...] this was the first time [...] that I thought, "maybe I should switch to another app."

This hits the bull's eye.

This is how I felt. And to make it clear: I don't like to feel that way. Spotify is like my third parent, because it knows my taste of music better than myself.

This update is terrible. As a podcast user, I can't do the simple action of easily scrolling through all my downloaded podcasts episodes in one place so I can pick what to listen to. I also primarily listen to podcasts offline when I am out of cell service, and this often doesn't work since I need to load "my list" or whatever to find episodes, which always tries to connect to the internet. This design is horrible. Did you do no user testing or have no conversations with podcast listeners?

  1. Absolutely! Over the years Spotify has had a curiously increasing aversion to search bars and custom organization. It's as if they WANT us to look for the songs/playlists we want as though it were a needle in a haystack.

Yep I hate this new library tab. Why dump all of my library on the one page for me to sort through with multiple filters. It’s a music library page, not a **bleep** eBay search page. The old way was so much nicer and more efficient to use, there was nothing wrong with it so why change it? Or at least give us the option to chose between the old and new!

The absolute worst part of this new update is the loading times when scrolling through my albums. It seems Spotify is only able to load the first few albums and some more at a time as I slowly scroll down my list. This is making the app borderline unusable right now. I am using a decent phone (note 20 ultra) on strong WiFi (140mbps) so it can't be blamed on other factors other than the new layout itself. Shouldn't something be done to fix this? Unacceptable

i LOATHE the new your library update entirely. the only good feature would be the universal search and easier access to settings. formatting it in one long list has actually made it more difficult for me to find what i want. i found the previous formatting of my library far more intuitive, organized and user friendly. i have one hundred podcasts followed and they completely clog up my library in this new format! the filtering options are clunky and annoying, especially since you can’t set a filter as the default. please return it to the way it was before!! if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

Complete ui overhauls are almost always bad, this is no exception. Nobody was asking for any of these changes to be made. There are features and bug fixes the community has begged for for YEARS (swipe to queue on android, for example) and you refuse to implement them. Listen to your customers, and you will have a product that is a million times better. Developers should be in charge of the project roadmap, not whatever technologically illiterate corporate suits are in control of it now.

Pro's:
+ The option to choose between tiles and list view in 'Your Library' is neato.
++ The 'New Episodes' list for podcasts is very convenient!
+ Sorting your entire library like a playlist, also cool.

± Pinning is convenient but 4 seems limited.

Cons:
-- The filters reset whenever you close out of the app.
- Filters and tabs are virtually the same, but the filters look messier (they scroll off-screen).
- I'm either in podcast or music mode; I'd rather not have them mixed together. Having separate tabs for each was clean and uncomplicated. I'd say this update is less streamlined than what it was.

Overall, the cons outweigh the pros, and this update feels like a downgrade.

Though it adds some cool features, it's generally more cluttered and less functional than it hoped it'd be.

Hello, I'm here to report a problem with the new library. On the topic of podcasts, "My Episodes" is a good addition. All the downloaded episodes go there, got it. However, episodes downloaded from *before* ME was introduced *never* got added to ME. No way I can find them now... If I filter by "Downloaded" in my library, only downloaded eps from pods I'm already subscribed to and those in ME show up. Please fix this Spotify!

Completely agree. Would love a "revert" options to go back to the clear and simple way it was organized before. Had all of my lists meticulously organized for listening order and now they are split and confusing. Also finding glitchiness when switching between one podcast and another/different creators.

The old organization was fine. Everything is harder now.

Example that matters a lot to me: I want to look at all downloaded podcasts with one or two clicks. Now it appears to be impossible. I have a list of shows that include downloaded podcasts, and I have to click each show separately to see what has been downloaded.

This is seriously one of the worst re-designs I've ever seen from any app in recent memory. I don't think I have ever taken the time to comment like this before.
