Spotify keeps resetting local save storage (Multiuser)

My Question or Issue

I have 3 Users on my PC. Each user is just for different background and desktop icons.
On all 3 I am logged into the same Spotify account. 
On all 3 I am setting the local save location to "D:/music/spotify". (Because my C: drive has barely 10GB left )
But Spotify keeps resetting this location every time I restart the app and redownloading the songs.

Hello! Welcome to the Spotify Community!

 

From what I've researched, on Windows, Spotify handles storage settings specific to the operating system user, even when everyone uses the same Spotify account.

 

Therefore, I recommend you follow these steps:

 

1. Check folder permissions

Right-click on D:/music/spotify
Go to Properties → Security
Ensure that all Windows users have Read and Write permissions for this folder.

 

2. Set the location and close correctly
For each Windows user:
Open Spotify
Go to Settings → Storage
Set to D:/music/spotify
Close Spotify completely (menu → Exit, not just minimize)

 

3. Avoid using protected folders
I do not recommend using folders with restricted permission inheritance or controlled by another user.

 

Even using the same Spotify account, offline downloads are not shared between Windows users. Each profile needs to validate the location and maintain its own cache files.

Hello again, 
It currently seems to work. I have tried it with manually setting the permissions. 
It shouldnt even be a protected folder, but who knows what windows is up to these days.
If everything works out I'll be here in a week again and mark your post as a solution.
Otherwise unhopefully i'll post an update. Thank you very much for your time 🙂

It has been sometime and it reocurred.

I set the location, restart the app and the location is reset to the "C:\Users\AppData"
I just kept on changing the location.
At some point spotify didnt reopen.
When I tried to restart it it said "Application not responding".
Then I tried to kill it in the taskmanager.
The taskmanager said killing this process is not a thing it can do ?!
And spotify started normally immediatly after that with the correct setting.

Sometimes this can happen due to the previous cache (in this case, with the settings before the update you did).

 

I'm glad it's working normally now! To ensure it doesn't happen again, I recommend doing a clean reinstall.
