disable play queue

disable play queue

The play queue is nothing but trouble for me. It never works the way I expect, despite having tested its behavior and read multiple articles explaining it.

The most recent frustration is when I try to play an album starting on a specific song, it only plays that song and then resumes the queue. I'm pretty sure even sometimes when I try to play an album with the play button for the whole thing, it goes back to the queue after the first song, and then puts the rest of the album in the queue. I'd rather not have the queue at all. Makes me want to throw my phone through my windshield, which reminds me this is a safety issue as well, as I will get in the car, pick something to play, and 4 minutes into my drive it's playing something else, leaving me to either pull over to fix it safely, or put other people's lives in danger to fix it while driving.

I just came across this thread due to having similar difficulties and frustrations. My queue seems to supersede any manual input of listening desire. This morning, I paid attention and can give you a detailed account. Last night I was listening to an album which then continued into similar music at the album’s conclusion, as chosen by Spotify. This is normal behavior. One of those albums/songs was from Dntel. I stopped playing, went out for the night, then started listening again this morning. I searched “Dexter Brown” and selected the album “Doin’ Allright.” I then hit play on track one, and at the end of track one,  instead of moving on to track two, I’m sure you can guess what happened…it did not move to track two but instead started playing a Dntel song from the previous evening. This is annoying. Why on earth would it jump away from the album I’ve selected playing and instead default to my queue? Additionally, if this is the default behavior, it would seem that each time I want to use spotify I’m now going to have to first check my queue and clear it? That seems like a wholly unnecessary and wasted step when trying to listen to music. I don’t want to have to keep an eye on my queue each and every time I interact with the app.

Hi @elektrikhd@corysmith01,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)? How about the webplayer?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Does it happen with all content (albums, playlists, etc.)?
  • Does it matter if you're playing via Connect or not?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Just getting back to this as once again this frustrating behavior is back. I'm attaching two screen grabs so you can see. In one, you'll see my Daily Mix 2. I've been trying to play that all morning AND have it continue the mix, as it should. But, if you go to my queue, you'll see that the first three songs match what is in my Daily Mix 2...but beyond that it goes off on a tangent and seems have a mind of its own. I know I can remove the songs, however, you can only do that one at a time and the frustration of having to remove them each, individually, is just not going to happen. I have logged out of Spotify and restarted my computer, didn't help. What can I do to just get this app to play the mix as it is showing in the mix and not play a random selection of songs that are in my queue, which I did not actually place in my queue?

Did you find any solution? I have the same problem for more than 6 months now. Like you said, I also wanted to throw my phone out of the window 😞
I got the usual solutions like reboot, emty cache delete and reinstall Spotify, with obvious all didn't work. So now I'm stuck with this problem.

Hi there @Marcel-NL,

Thanks for your reply.

We haven't received many reports about this. First up, bear in mind that if you manually add something to your Queue, that will be what Spotify will play next unless your added Queue finishes or you select the option Clear queue.

If this is not what you're experiencing, could you send a detailed description of the issue? If possible, send a video recording of this behavior. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

We'll be here.

Hi,

this is what happens to me when my phone connects to my car's BT.

Hi @Marcel-NL,

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if you tried to send a video or screenshot, but it seems it wasn't uploaded successfully. Could you try again? Or be a little more specific about the behavior you're experiencing.

In the meantime, you can check out this thread, where a similar issue with the Queue is already being investigated. If that's the behavior you're experiencing you can keep an eye on that thread for any updates.

Keep us posted!

Hello,

I've come on here as I'm having the same experience.  It sounds like this isn't a bug with the spotify but rather everything is working how it's suppose to, but the system is hindering how some people would like to use the queue feature.

My situation is, I like to listen to a particular podcast during my commute to and from work - so I queue up a few episodes, so when my phone connects to my car it automatically starts playing the podcast and if an episode finishes while I'm still driving it will automatically play the next one.  I've found using the queue system the best way to do this as going into spotify and playing episodes from the podcast page doesn't allow for the podcast to automatically start playing when I connect to the car. The podcast also adds episodes from another podcast in their playlist I don't want to listen to, so using the queue allows me to skip those.

For the most part this system works fine as this is almost the only time and way I use spotify.  However, every now and then I want to pop in a listen to something that is not the podcast.  But if I chose a playlist or album, it will pay one song and then jump to playing the next item in the queue instead of the next item on the playlist or album.  I know technically the queue function is doing what it should here as that's what you've told it to queue and play next.  However, I don't want to listen to my podcast I've queued at the moment, I want to listen to the playlist or album - but I don't want to clear my queue to disable it, because I want to have it ready for how I usually use spotify to listen to my podcast on my communte.  If I clear it I have to remake the queue again.

So I think this thread isn't asking to fix a bug - it's asking if a feature could be added where you can disable a queue without clearing it (maybe like turning it on or off)?  Or is the only work around here, to basically create your own playlist?

It's funny you mention podcasts, I made a playlist of one I like to listen
to, and just manually add and remove episodes as I go. I basically just
avoid using the queue whenever possible at this point.
It would make sense then as you say to add or change a feature so there's
an option for how to handle it. Sometimes I don't want to make a playlist
just to delete it later, having a few songs I want to queue up, but it
always seems to me me up later, sometimes even when I clear the queue.

Hey folks,

Your feedback on this is greatly appreciated, thanks for sharing it here. This article goes in detail on the queue and its different sections + how to edit them, so feel free check it out, if you haven't already 👍

Cheers!
