iOS App - Podcast Library's 'Recently Updated' List is not Refreshing

My Question or Issue

On the iOS app only (the Desktop app's Recently Updated list works fine!) when I click Your Library>Podcasts and then sort by 'Recently Updated', the list is inaccurate. It will show several Podcasts with the date underneath being several days ago. But if I click on a podcast, it will being me to the podcast's page, show that there was an episode released today, and then when I go back to the Recently Updated list, it'll now show that that Podcast released an episode today. But in order to have the Recently Updated list be accurate, I need to manually click on each podcast to get the app to recognize that that podcast has a new episode and then refresh the list.

Interestingly, the 'New Episodes' list (which sits at the top of the Recently Updated list) will show a correct list of new episodes from all the various podcasts I follow, but the full list of which podcasts have recently uploaded a new episode will still not populate accurately.

I do not have any data saver on for Spotify, I have deleted the cache, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I have logged out and back in, and I have turned my phone off an back on again. The Recently Updated list is still not populating itself live.

The attached photos show this problem: the Recently Updated list show that only 'Front Burner' released a new episode (because I clicked on that podcast manually), and that all other podcasts have not released any episodes since Nov 19th. But when I click on 'New Episodes', there are several episodes that have been released today, but have not populated the Recently Updated list.

Hey there @Amadeusnarbutt

Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community.

Could you let us know if this has started happening after a specific event such as an update either of Spotify or the OS of your iPhone?

On another note, you mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?

If that doesn't do the trick, could you ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account on your iPhone to check if they can replicate this behavior?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hello, I have a premium plan. I want to sort podcasts by Recently Updated, but that is not working for a couple of weeks by now on Spotify app on iPhone 13, lastest iOS version and on Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Sorting by recently updated does not sort the podcasts, because daily news podcasts used to be on the top, but now they are not there, even though they are daily updated. I must search for the podcast, open the detail and only then it appears on top as Recently updated.

Hi Eni,

there was no particular event that caused this. It has been this way for a few weeks, I think?

I did a full clean reinstall as per instructions and the Recently Updated list updated fine when I first logged in, but then did not continue to update regularly, leaving me in the same spot.

I do not have someone else to log in and test this, plus I would need to allow them to stay logged in on my device for at least a day to see whether the list updates as more episodes are released.

Please advise on what to do next. This is very frustrating that a basic functionality of your app is not functioning.

best,

Amadeus

Hey @Amadeusnarbutt, @brambi77cz

Thanks for your reply.

Does this happen only with some particular podcasts or with all of them? Also, could you check if the OS of your affected devices has any pending updates?

On another note, would you mind sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device )if you haven't already)?

We'll be waiting for your replies.

Hi Eni,

The entire list (all podcasts I subscribe to) behaves this way.
My OS is up to date (iOS 18.1.1) and I am using a iPhone 15 Pro Model MTU93VC/A. Spotify version is 8.9.418.

I have also subscribed to new podcasts since this issue began and when they are first subscribed to the most recent episode will appear in the Recently Updated list as normal, but as new episodes come out, it will not stay current in the list (just liek all the other podcasts).

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Best,

Amadeus

My Question or Issue

Hi. When I try to sort podcasts by "Recently update", the list on the sidebar doesn't change. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and clearing the cache and downloads, but it still doesn't seem to work. My wifi connection is fine. This has been happening for a few months now.

I have also been having this exact same issue for several weeks now.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for all your replies and for the info shared.

@Amadeusnarbutt, we really appreciate all the time you took to send us accurate info. It seems there's a more recent version for the app available. Would you mind checking if you can update the app? If yes, can you check if you can replicate this behavior afterwards? Please send us the exact Spotify version you're running after the update.

@ElJaySee, @Jwesley0123, thanks for adding your replies here. If you haven't yet, we'd suggest you perform a clean (more throughout) reinstall of the app. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this behavior. You can follow these steps to do it.

If this should persist after that, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running there.
  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • If you go to all the home pages of the podcasts you follow, does it updates as @Amadeusnarbutt pointed out above?

Keep us in the loop!

Hello,

I updated the app (now 8.9.96.547) and am still experiencing the same issue. The photos attached show what is happening: the Recently Updated list shows that the most recent episodes were released 3 days ago, with several shows not having updated since Nov 28th, however when I click on 'New Episodes' there are several episodes that were released today.

Please let me know how to proceed.

Best,
Amadeus

Hi! I've been experiencing this issue also, and noticing the same app behavior as described by everyone above. The clean reinstall *has* worked to resolve this in the past, and it is definitely not working now.

I did a clean reinstall and still have the issue. Answers to your question are below.

  1. I am running version 8.9.96.547
  2. iPhone 14 Pro Max version 18.1.1
  3. Did not notice if it happened after a specific event.
  4. Yes, if I go to the pages of

Watching. I literally came here for this EXACT CONCERN. Thank you!!

These steps did not help with mine.

I am running:

Spotify 8.9.96

iPhone 14 Pro Max iOs 18.2

It started a few weeks ago

New episodes appear in the "new episodes" tab and if you go to each individual podcast the new episode is there but the main podcast episodes list will not update by "recently updated".

While i've got you: please implement a "play next" function in addition to "add to queue". Sometimes as I'm adding stuff to my queue for a run or walk I want something I come across bumped to the top of the list. Thanks!!!!!

Hey folks,

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

We've gone ahead and passed this info on to the right team. We'll let you know as soon as we have any updates.

In the meantime, make sure to keep the app up to date

Cheers!

My Question or Issue

For a few weeks at least now, the "Recently Updated" filter for podcasts hasn't been working.

Shows only do an update on my podcast list once I've gone in the program archive. If there is a new one and I go back to the list, then it may update and roll up at the top of the list...

Same thing is happening to me for months now. I have to manually open the podcast before I can see the new episodes.
Here’s my details:

iPhone 14 Pro

iOS 18.2

Spotify is always updated to the latest version

I have the same problem but with podcasts and the sort function "recently updated".

The function to sort my podcasts which was recently updated doesn't work. The podcasts are not moved above even though they were updated. If I open the podcast I can see the new episodes though. I don't have the problem on the app on my computer but only on my mobile device (iPhone14) and iPad.
I've already tried to log in and out but, delete the app and download it again but it doesn't help.

Any hints appreciated!
