Cannot control spotify from google maps

Solved!

Cannot control spotify from google maps

Since yesterday, the "continue playing" button does not work on the google maps on ios. Google maps is an approved app on the spotify app and spotify is set as the music player on google maps. I have an iphone 16 using the latest version of ios. In trying to fix this problem I have: updated both apps to the most recent version, logged out and logged back in on both apps, deleted and reinstalled both apps, and restarted my phone.

I've uploaded a screen recording -- you can see the "continue playing" button flash grey as I press it several times with no response. Thanks for any help

I just started having this problem today. I checked my updates and it updated to new version 25.12.1 today

Yesterday I discovered that the Spotify link in Google Maps has broken again.
Both apps are at latest versions and no option in App Store for upgrade.

  • Spotify 9.0.28.607
  • Google maps 25.12.1.7377391080
  • iOS 18.3.2 (22D82)

How is this still an issue 3 months later? I'm using the latest versions of both the Google and Spotify apps - only difference is that I updated to the latest iOS yesterday.

Hey folks,

Thanks for letting us know about this.

We've forwarded your reports to the relevant team, we'll keep you posted on any updates in this thread.

The problem was solved temporarily and now it doesn’t work again.

It looks like it may be broken again - not working as of 3/30/2025 on my fully up to date iPhone/both apps

It was a Google issue last time and I assume it probably is again. I get that it’s frustrating and  that only Spotify has provided an explicit forum for tracking bug fix progress — but we’ve gotta be careful not to take our frustrations out on the wrong team just because they’re the only ones we have access to.

Totally. Not really mad at Spotify here - just floating it back to Spotify because I imagine they have a direct line to Google developers and they have a vested interest in putting pressure on Google to get it fixed!

I have had this same issue — and have tried the same troubleshooting.
Google maps is version 25.13.5

Spotify is version 9.0.30.604

iOS version 18.4 on iPhone 12

thank you

iPhone 13mini
iOS 18.2
Google Maps version - 24.50.0.7044278910

Same issue. Left a report with Google as recommended by their own forum moderators (https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3094045) fwiw. Sad to see such basic and useful functionality broken for so long now.

Device: iPhone 16e

OS: iOS 18.3.2

Google Maps Version: 25.13.5.7400123850

Spotify Version: 9.0.30.604

Yeah, it gets stuck on “continue playing”. After uninstalling maps and reinstalling it, it worked! …but as soon as i closed maps, goes back to stuck mode.

This issue is still happening on the newest version of:
Google maps 25.14.1
Spotify 9.0.32

Is there any solution?

Hey folks,

Thank you for your patience.

We received some internal info mentioning that the issue should be fixed on the incoming version of the Google Maps app, so we'd recommend keeping your Maps app updated. More info about how to update it here.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.

Hello, on both Apps is the newest version installed. But it is still not working.

I regret to report that the latest version of Google Maps on iOS (25.16.1 released today) has not fixed the issue. The same problem persists. I am also using the latest release of Spotify (Version 9.0.32), to be clear.

@OscarDC, this is becoming quite the farce! While it may not be Spotify's fault it is your problem, and with such basic functionality of the app absent for some 4 months now (!) I would expect a more proactive approach here. Please advise.
