My Question or Issue: I understand there is the ability to turn shuffle play off. But my issue (I've tried search, and there are tons of shuffle play questions, can't find this specific issue) is that I never want shuffle play, ever. But every time I start the app on my phone or on carplay, it plays shuffle. Maybe on the computer it works like I want, and I can select a song on my playlist and it will continue down the list from there, but why can't I opt to have shuffle off from the start? I never want to hear my playlist (there's only 1) shuffle.

This has been annoying me for weeks.

Whoever had the idea to default to shuffle should get their head checked.

Well that's incorrect, the app still sets shuffle as a default for all playlists.

Please change this!

Yeah. We should have the right to turn off shuffle on playlists whether we have free or premium,

Yordan-

I appreciate your response, but it is inaccurate. All playlists still have shuffle turned on by default. I checked a few albums and it was off. Everything else is defaulted to on: private playlists, public playlists, shared playlists, suggested playlists.

Please Dump Shuffle. Delete it. It’s not a good idea.

If I want to listen to an album, I want to hear it from start to end. Especially when I am listening to audio books.

However, Spotify now thinks everybody does like shuffling. I pay for a family account, and my daughter gets frustrated everytime when we listen to a story and the parts get all mixed up.

It is a awfully bad idea to set this as standard for every album. Stop auto shuffle for albums and playlists NOW!

This is nothing more than a very surreptitious and hyper-controlling way of getting customers to listen to songs that don’t exist in the first 10 songs of their playlist (the most commonly heard songs).
There will be artists out there not believing that Spotify represents value for money.
But rather than it be our choice how many times we listen to these tracks….Spotify is now deliberately making us listen to less heard tracks.
It’s fine if it is optional.
It’s hyper-controlling and surreptitious without our consent, as loyal paying customers.

Spotify - STOP IT.

Give us the option to turn-off all shuffles.

Failure to do so looks very, very bad and manipulative to your customers.
They’ll only go elsewhere if you doesn’t represent and respect their values.

We hate shuffle!

Seems like auto shuffle is now disabled in all contexts, including artist pages. Thanks for reverting to the sensible behavior.

Doesn't the fact that this is even a thread mean it's a user pain point to address?

Adjectives in comments are: annoying, frustrating, dangerous, bad....

User expectation is tracks go in order.

Artist intent is tracks go in an order.

Spotify is trying to push some biz concept but no one else wants it lol

Might make sense for Playlists but definitely not albums.

That's simply not true on my Spotify PC app.  Every time I pull up an album to play, shuffle is on.  Irritating as h***.  Especially on classical music albums.  Does Spotify really think I want to listen to Beethoven's 5th in this order:  4th movement, 1st movement, 3rd movement, 2nd movement?

I don't understand why you cant just go into your settings or preferences and have Default Shuffle on or off toggle. That way you can have your shuffle default set how you want it... period.

I don't have a setting that would allow me to disable Shuffle, either in the desktop or Android versions.  Or if I do, I can't find it.  Where do you see such a setting?

If you read previous messages, you could see that toggle function does not work 2 or 3 months ago.

No this does not help. It should be the way it used to be--the default is what it was the last time you used it. I NEVER use shuffle. Please change it back.

Based on all the comments and your refusal to do anything about the idiotic shuffle default, it's clear that Spotify doesn't care about what its paying users want. I'm searching for a new service and will be dropping Spotify.

This is great.
My question is, wife failed to confirm her home address as the same as mine on our premium family account within the seven day window, so her account was permanently shifted to a free plan for 12 months and we had to create a whole new account for her to re-add her to the family premium plan.

Now on this new account we created the only option to her is the shuffle play button and not the play button with shuffle toggle. How do we switch it to the shuffle toggle instead of the shuffle play button since she is on the premium membership?

This isn't solved. I have premium, and no matter what I do, Spotify randomly re-enables shuffle on my playlists on PC and Android. If I could swear on here, I would. It is very!! annoying to say the least, and I don't pay to be annoyed. Add an option in settings to disable shuffle permanently account wide and stop messing people around Spotify. Sick off it now. Sort your lives out!

Shuffle has been set as default on albums for a few weeks maybe a month now. This never used to be the case.

Toggling off doesnt save either. This is clearly an issue or poorly executed and thought of update from Spotify

I have tried toggling it off so many times in both the mobile app and the PC application. It behaves erratically, it somehow insists on staying on most of the times. It would be so much easier having an option on the Settings page. You add so many useless stuff there and do not have a single option for DISABLING shuffle feature.

Shuffle continues to be 'on' by default.  Once I start Spotify and turn shuffle 'off', if I plug phone into car, shuffle turns back on. If I plug phone into car and turn shuffle off, and start car, shuffle turns back on.  It's like whenever there's a power 'switch' on the phone, Spotify reverts to shuffle, so it's still shuffle by default.
