Have EQ settings or Sound engine changed for iOS?

Have the EQ settings or sound engine changed with Spotify iOS? I noticed this seems to have coincided with the introduction of Normalization...

Even with Normalization turned off - the dynamic range and audio quality of playback has significantly decreased - almost an overdriven sound for tracks that are a tad loud

Can Spotify please advise if there has been any change?

All other iOS sound settings are turned off - so not a double EQ situation
