My Question or Issue

After 100 years of trying to figure out how to get Spotify on Desktop to actually display the album art in the local files I was importing, I discovered that it now has decided to not allow me to sync them to my iPhone. I ensured that I followed all steps correctly, and did so several times. I actually did everything so very perfectly and I did nothing wrong and it has taken me all night and wasted several of my precious hours. I am incessantly met with a "Song Not Downloaded" message. LIKE, DOWNLOAD IT THEN!???!!!!! oh my god!

Here is all the tea

- I have already restarted all devices SO MANY times. All apps and devices are up to date, using the same WiFi, and logged into the same account.

- On the Spotify iPhone app, when I go to Settings > Local Files, there is no "Enable sync from desktop". There is only a "Local audio files". It is already switched on.

- I am a residential student at my school so I do not have access to the router. However I have successfully synced local files using the same devices on this same WiFi in the past.

- Firewall is disabled on my laptop.

I have actually tried each and every suggested solution across the entire Internet. The fact that this has been an extremely common issue for so many people for SO MANY YEARS is ridiculous. Rarely is there a solution to be found across these countless forums with people having the same issue. Why Spotify seems to neglect the fact that their Local Files system works approximately 5% of the time is very frustrating. Please help me if you can I am so exhausted!

Hey there @cornpop243,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community.

Sorry to hear that you can no longer sync local files to your iPhone. We'll do our best to help you listen to local files on your phone again.

Note that the successful upload of local files depends a lot on the type of file you're uploading and it's metadata, as well as the network.

Some networks, like school or work networks often block certain networking protocols, which prevent the successful sharing of local files across devices with Spotify. This might be the case with your school network as well, since we can't guarantee that the network administration has not made changes recently, which could be preventing your Spotify devices to sync.

What you can do is create a mobile hotspot from your phone and connect both the phone and your computer to the new network and try to reupload the local files and re-download the playlists on your phone. This way we can check if the issue is network related at ll.

Keep us posted on this.

Tried all suggestions and it still isn’t working. Please update the app.

Hi there @smnths,

Thank you for your reply and for taking the time to troubleshoot what's been suggested earlier.

Local Files on mobile have been completely revamped so we can confirm that it's no longer possible to sync files from the desktop app to the phone - instead the audio files need to be stored on the phone itself. You can have a look at this article.

Let us know how it goes 🙂

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Thanks bro, just reinstalled the app and completely wiped my 1,000 song playlist i had downloaded that half of the files i dont even have anymore are no longer available for me. FIX THE APP SPOTIFY THERE IS NO REASON WHY IM PAYING FOR THIS**bleep** APP.  I have synced over 1,000 songs and for some reason after trying for an hour they wouldnt go on my phone. This app sucks.

This may be a coincidence, but I had the same problem. Then I just happened to 'snooze' or dismiss the auto-reminders that were listed in the reminders popup on my mac. Once they were 'dealt with', I restarted spotify on the mac and on my iphone and it synced the greyed-out files immediately. 🙂
