My Question or Issue
Just noticed when cleaning up my "Liked songs" playlist that when I have duplicates, it sometimes removes BOTH tracks, not just the one I have un-liked.
Is this a known thing?
Still an issue btw. If this is a known syncing issue (which looks like it kinda is) maybe a knowledge article would be helpful. A sign out of all devices button on the mobile app. Or a warning that too many devices or sign ins or swapping between the device actually makes the bug worse.
To specify, I cycle through 4 devices for Spotify because I travel. Now if we know this is a sync issue simple documentation instead of people trying to dive through these ancient forums.
I have just tried the official way to stop this problem and it still persists, I have made a playlist with all my other playlists I have and obviously there will be duplicates but it’s time consuming deleting the song with then it deletes the other duplicate/s, if there is anything you can do to help that would be great 🙂
This is happening to me too. I’ve tried removing the duplicate (the second song added) but that still removes the original (the song added first). I’ve tried restarting my phone (iPhone XR), clearing my cache, deleting and reinstalling the app, but none of it works. I don’t know if it’s resolved for liked songs because I have no duplicates there but this is happening to songs I have in playlists. Super annoying cause I’ve had some of these songs in my playlist from before artists got big or passed away and it’s kinda the only proof I have that I was an og. Not only that but before I realized the original song was getting removed too, I removed a bunch of songs so I don’t even remember what is gone. I have a screen recording but idk how to attach it. Spotify please fix this!!!
Hi @svsosv,
A short screen recording which shows this behavior in action would be greatly appreciated! You can try dragging & dropping it in your reply here - that should do the trick.
If the file is too large, you can upload it to a could service and share the link instead. Just make sure that the file is accessible by anyone with the link.
In order to investigate further, we'll also need the following:
If possible, try logging in on another device (a computer for example; a friend's or a relative's device would also do) to see if the issue persists there.
Keep us posted. Cheers!
I am still having this problem and have for years. it does not matter which device I use and I have even gotten an entire new phone. I have reinstalled the app and everything. it happens when a new version of the song is posted to Spotify so you save that one not realizing the other version is already in your playlist. Then you realize it is in your playlist twice and you delete one of the versions but it deletes both of them. So basically Spotify leaves the option of having two copies or having none and then adding another one back. Here is a screen recording of an example but it happens with many songs, not just this one. It would be nice if spotify could unmark it as resolved - as it is obviously NOT resolved **bleep**
Hey @bdweufj,
Thanks for sharing this video.
Can you please also send us links to the 2 tracks so we can try to reproduce the issue on our end?
Cheers,
Well since I already removed the duplicate from my library, I cannot provide those, but I have posted the links for two songs I was able to replicate the problem with

Hey @bdweufj,
Thanks for the reply!
We had a look at the tracks you sent over and it seems like the 2 tracks are linked to each other. This means that they can still appear on different albums on the artist profile, depending on how they've been submitted. Since they're linked, they might both be removed when you're simply removing one of them.
We hope this clears things up!
After annoying me on and off for years I finally came across a solution that works.
This happens to me constantly, on phones and PCs alike, all platforms. Super frustrating. Most commonly I reproduce by:
Result: Both copies of song are removed. Grr.
It also occurs on desktop when using song entries in an arbitrary play list to remove the song from liked. If the song occurs multiple times in that play list both songs will be removed from liked. I haven't seen this when removing the songs from any other playlist, only when removing from Liked.
The workaround I've used is to use the menu on the song you want to remove, GO TO THE ALBUM, then remove it from liked from there. In that case it seems to remove by content ID instead of by name and artist. Or something.
