Touch Preview on iOS removal

Just a quick post to let you know we’re in the process of removing Touch Preview, the feature on the iOS app that gives you a sneak peek of a playlist, song, album, or artist before you hit play.

We’ve taken this decision as it currently has a very low engagement rate. We’re committed to offering the best experience on each platform, and we’re actively looking into new possibilities for the long press feature.

The change will take effect with app version 8.4.15, which goes live in the App Store today.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on what long press feature you’d like to see added. Thanks in advance for sharing your feedback!

This looks more and more like a sh*tstorm and you guys are doing NOTHING about it. You can't call yourself a social platform and show no reaction at all for weeks...

Is it your decision or asked to users directly? We want touch preview back! It is not fair when you buy a service and feature removed for some reason!

I thought this was a really innovative little feature - Why remove it? It seems silly to do such a thing, when a good amount of people clearly enjoy it shown by majority of the replies in comments. Bad move Spotify.

To all who come here to voice their disatisfaction with Touch Preview being removed:

Spotify doesn't seem to be listening to us here, so we need to get vocal where they have listened to us before, or at least responded to us.  Make sure you contact Spotify support any way you can (email, Tweeting SpotifyCares, etc.) and tell them you want Touch Preview back and tell them you want it back RIGHT NOW.

If they say they can't make any promises, tell them you still want it back.

Keep reminding them you want it back until they implement it.

Should be brought back to hear 30 seconds of previews of music I really loved that feature it's a shame it had to be taken down now I don't use the app as much 🤷🏽‍♀️😭

The preview feature was the main reason I paid the extra for Spotify instead of using Google Play (which I get with my YouTube Red account). Guess I'm going to save $10 a month at least.

I'm not lieing when I say touch preview was the sole reason I moved back to Spotify after 3 months of free Apple Music. I'm super disappointed. This was innovative and innovations sometimes take longer to adopt. I'm gonna have to switch back to Apple Music now, at least then I'll have Siri integration.

Ummm. I would like this option back....as my choice of what I would like to see. 

Just because it has low engagement doesn’t seem like a reason to take it off. 

How about a tutorial on new features/simple hints and tips while you use the app?

I hate that I can’t preview things anymore. 👿

I'm sad to read that the preview app will be removed . That helped me choose  songs n playlist faster . I work shipment  be able to preview a playlist within 40 seconds or less without having to read every artist . Was better . I take twice as long to find music, which cuts into other things. Please bring it back , I think most iPhone users don't know about the feature , **bleep** some are still learning that apple  headphones let you skip songs .

I don't know of any user that asked for this feature to be removed. As a premium subscriber, I pay for useful features and this was one of them that other music applications didn't have. Next time ask your user base for a little more input before getting rid of useful features.

I am feeling so lost without the touch preview.  I loved that feature so much. Back in August, I showed it to my sister and her friend, who have both since become premium users.  I upgraded my account from premium to the family plan so I could add my daughter and we have been looking for this feature only to discover that it isn't our devices, it is actually *gone*.  

I very much used that feature to help build playlists while I'm working in the garage on weekends or just trying to browse playlists more efficiently.   I loved it so much.  PLEASE bring it back!!!!  ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ PLEASE!!!!  It was the illest!!!  Come back to me!!  I'm freaking out 😅

I would like to add that, I found this feature by accident.  I think a lot of users may not have even been aware of it.  My friends didn't even know it was there.  I'm sure it would be used more if it were more obvious.   Please let me have it back.  🙂

Calling out JackF, the moderator who created this forum.  I've written to you privately and writing this again here encouraging others to do the same.  

I am writing to you because you created the intial post in this forum, yet you have been silent since its inception.  Clearly, the removal of this beloved feature was a mistake.  The community has spoken and they are asking for answers yet from spotify... nothing.  There is not a single person who supports this decision in the community or on twitter.  Hundreds of people have been vocal.  Yet, what response have we gotten from spotify?  Still nothing.  We want answers.  If this truly was a feature removal based on low engagement then it's clear that it needs to be put pack with the option to toggle whatever replacement feature you have in the works.  If this was removed for licensing or other issues like "it's affecting our bottom line", then spotify needs to man up and be honest with their customers.   

What kind of company doesn't respond to this number of complaints?  I'm almost more upset by the way sportify is handling this than the fact that the feature was removed.
