My Question or Issue
Ever since Spotify updated how you add music to your liked songs/playlists, I am unable to add a song to a playlist more than once. When I try, I get a message saying, "This song is already in [playlist name]." It still works on desktop but it's annoying to have to pull out my laptop to make playlists. The new system for adding music to your library is overall just a pain.
I'm unsure if there is a workaround for this or if it will need an update to fix it.
Hey @katiepineapple,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.
Can you let us know if you're able to see "Add Anyway" button? This usually lets you include the song again. Has the pop-up message "Add to playlist again" has stopped appearing for you?
It'd also be great if you can share with us if this happens with a specific song or with a different songs.
On another note, if you're getting a different pop-up or an error message instead, send us a screenshot and we'll take a look.
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
Hi Lyubka,
I do not have an Add Anyway button. I am unable to add any song that is on the playlist already. When I try this via the "Add Songs" feature directly from the playlist, the playlist is already selected as shown in one of the screenshots below. Additionally, when I try to add the song again by tapping the three dots next to the song and tapping "Add to Playlist", I get the error message shown below at the bottom of my screen.
The new system for adding music is so difficult to use and frustrating so I hope it gets changed back soon.
Update: I just updated the app and it went back to the way it was before. The Like button is back, I can add songs as many times as I want, and the Add Anyway button is back. Hope it stays this way!
I’ve been having the same problem. Problem Started just recently. It doesn’t bring the option to “add anyway”. Tried the trouble shooting, reinstalling etc. still no joy.
Hey there @nabilari,
Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.
You mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?
If this doesn't do the trick, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
We'll be on the lookout.
I listen hours a day and this latest update is VERY irritating. I don't always travel with my laptop and now I am unable to create playlists the way I want to on my iphone or ipad. Very frustrating and I don't understand why anyone thought this was a good idea!
Right now the ability to add a song to a playlist more than once using the "Add to playlist" menu in the mobile app is currently not possible. As a workaround you can still add songs to a playlist more than once using the desktop app.
In my walkthrough I show you how to use the new Plus button and you can find more answers to the most frequently asked questions:
The ♡ Heart button is being replaced with a (+) Plus button
Hello I can’t see the “ add anyway “ option I used to have days ago.I want to get it back.I Hope you will help me out.Thank You.
Hey @crywon,
We can confirm that it's not currently possible to add duplicate tracks in a playlist using the mobile app, so for the time being you'll have to use the desktop app or the Web Player instead.
Hope this clears things up. Take care.
With the new plus sign/checkmark way of adding songs to playlists, you can only add each song once. When you try to add it a second time, you cannot, because the only option is to uncheck the box to remove it from the playlist. Which really sucks. Maybe I want to hear one song more frequently than the others on that playlist. Maybe I want a whole playlist of one song on repeat for a certain amount of time. Doesn't matter why. The point is I'm paying for this service and this is something I had always been able to do in the past. I don't understand why this option was taken away from premium users. Really not good to take away value and functionality from those who are paying for your service to be in business. In fact, you actually want to move in the opposite direction and ADD value and functionality over time. I do not see this being for legal reasons or how this would affect things like licensure/royalties etc. That being said, I'm just not logically understanding this decision and would please like that ability returned to premium users. OR have some conviction and tell us what reasons you have for no longer allowing duplicate songs in playlists for premium users. Because honestly the very least a business can do is be transparent with the consumers that are granting them profit.
Thanks so much.

In the most recent update the feature to add the same song to a playlist has been removed. I am an educator of young children and this was crucial to the success of our movement classes. We construct all of our playlists for the school year over the summer and each class has new music but also repeat music. This ability to re-add the same song to the same playlist was crucial and now it is no longer available. I am requesting that this feature be added back to the updated app as putting a song on repeat or adding multiple songs to a queue when you teach dozens of early childhood classes (all different students) a week isn't realistic. I know that many other educators use Spotify and made playlists the same way I did.

My Question or Issue
How can I add the same song to a playlist multiple times? It was easily done in the old version of Spotify but the feature has now changed.
Good day @Millionen
I'm not on iOS but let's try and solve this.
This is what pops up when I try to add a song to a playlist which already has it. I have the option to press Add anyway if I want to add it multiple times. If you do not have this option or display, can you send a screenshot of what happens on your side and we'll take it from there.
Good luck 😄
Thank you! It looks different on iPhone.
If I go to the song and chose ‘Add to playlist’, the playlist(s) it’s already added to are marked by a green check and it’s not possible to add again - only to remove the song from the playlists = remove the check mark (screenshot 1).
If I go to the playlist, chose ‘Add to playlist’ and search the song I want to add again, it says the song is already on the playlist (in a grey square at the bottom of the screen) and there’s no option to chose add again, like the one you have (screenshot 2 + 3).
Will be very grateful if you can help me find this option on iPhone, thank you!!😊
Please bring back the possibility of adding the same song several times in the same playlist.
Hello once again @Millionen
I'm sorry if I took too long in getting back to you.
I've just been made aware that the functionality was removed when the (+) button was introduced to iOS and so it is no longer possible to add the same song multiple times to a playlist using an iOS device.
However, this is still possible on all other platforms and devices. This means you can use an Android device(if possible), desktop or the web player . If you're signed in on those devices when updating the playlists, the changes should reflect on your iOS device.
I hope this is clear enough. Good luck 😄

My Question or Issue
When I build certain playlists, sometimes I need to play the same sing back to back. I used to just add the song twice, but it won't let me do that now. How can I loop or add a song twice now? Before I'd just click the add, it would ask if I was sure and then I could pick yes. Now it just tells me it's already added
Hi, I've been struggling with this on my Android too. The Add Anyway doesn't appear anymore in whatever version that was updated. It's now a checkmark box and I can't add the song again to the same Playlist. I tried other workarounds like creating a new Playlist and trying to add that Playlist to my preferred Playlist but the checkbox remains there on the preferred Playlist. This is highly frustrating.
It used to be possible to add a number/track more than 1 time in a playlist. Although it is very usefull that now you can see in which playlist the track already is add to, sometimes you just want to add it more than ones in a playlist.
Please bring this option back.
